Features : Country Star Jason Kirkness Lights Sparks with Latest Single

WINNEPEG, Manitoba — Canadian born and bred Country Star Jason Kirkness is igniting sparks with his latest romantic ballad “Anywhere the Night Goes.”

This part-time Nashville resident produced this newest hit with Sean Power, Kirkness’ long-time creative partner and owner of Hilson Studios in Nashville.

Supported by a dynamic team of Nashville writers – Steven Dale Jones, Eric Arjes and Michael Tyler – Kirkness' single delivers a powerful, melodic, pop country anthem.

“I’m looking forward to getting ‘Anywhere the Night Goes’ really rolling,” Kirkness said. “Over the next couple of weeks, we’re going to finish shooting the video and then get that out on YouTube and get it out to people.”

Kirkness said the song really popped with him and he hopes it will connect with a lot of other people.

“It’s really important,” he said. “The first thing you've got to do is really connect with the lyrics and just where I’m at in my personal life it all sort of lined up really nice. I’ve been with the same lady for a lot of years now and I think the song is about hitting the spark, reigniting the spark on a love life. If you read the lyrics from that perspective then you’re like, oh, this thing’s really romantic.”

Kirkness grew up on the Canadian prairie about an hour outside Winnepeg in a town of about 300 people. He took piano lessons as a kid, then picked up the guitar as a teenager.

“I really enjoyed it and I played all kinds of things, rock music, pop music, country music,” Kirkness said. “Music took up all day, every day, of my life when I was younger. It’s what you do. I fell in love with Waylon Jennings at the time and Alabama and Jerry Reed. W’ve never gone on a family road trip that didn’t start with ‘Eastbound and Down.’ It’s a pretty typical musician story I think. I just kind of got on stage one time and enjoyed it, then I fell in love with songwriting as a teenager. It was a good thing to do.”

Kirkness has shared the stage with some big names in Country Music including Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Florida Georgia Line and others. Kirkness said he’s really looking forward to getting back on the road. Kirkness said he hasn’t been on stage since about 2018 because he took time off to work in the studio. Then the pandemic derailed a planned 2020 return to the stage, but he’s really looking forward to hitting the road in 2022. He described what he missed most about performing live.

“It’s the little moments that you can’t really explain, like the moment when the announcer says ‘Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Jason Kirkness,’” he said. “Then there’s this exact moment of silence right between the last syllable of ‘Kirkness’ and the first cheer from the crowd, you’re just in the anticipation of it. That moment often times feels like an eternity, like you’re waiting for the cheers, then you go ‘What’s up!!!” And they go wild, then you’re into it. I love that. It’s me and them becoming an ‘us’ – like everybody connecting.”

Kirkness said he wants to thank Predominant Studios for all their support along his journey, and looks forward to working with them more in the future.
