Features : Surviving a Shot to the Head, Independent Artist Cash Colione Comes Back with His Own Show-stopping Blow

Cash Colione—Christian Searcy by birth—is a poet-turned-rapper from Macon, Georgia who was born to entertain. Passionate, spiritual, and edgy, the up-and-coming artist is making his way onto the scene with thoughtful rap that tells a true story.

For his entire life, Cash Colione has lived and breathed music, using the therapeutic nature of writing to allow him to vent and express himself through words. In 2019, the rapper was shot in the head three times and survived—a miraculous feat that empowered him with a second chance at life. “It kind of ignited the flame within me,” says the rapper of that life-changing incident. “Even when you think you’re in the wrong spot, you’re in the right spot. God’s giving you something better.”

“I don’t do music just because it’s cool to rap. God blessed me with a vision that most people don’t have. I know where I’m going—he gives me reassurance every day that I’m on the right track,” says Cash Colione.

The artist’s life wasn’t always filled with a positive moments. “Doing time made me who I am today,” says the rapper of a previous life he has come away from with learnings. “I’m not one of those artists who try to shine the light on the good things. I shine the light on my obstacles and hard times because those build character.”

The self-proclaimed loner enjoys writing music as a way to connect with others. To write his music, Cash Colione often hashes out the song over the course of a week with no pen or paper—“God delivers the words to me, that’s how I write,” he says of his creative process. “I’m an everything-happens-for-a-reason person. I don’t force any music. When I write music it’s like coloring a picture. Sometimes I outline the song with melody or a tune in my head. Then I color it by putting words to the melody. Then details.”

Cash Colione wants the world to know that he isn’t just a rapper. In fact, the multi-talented musician plays piano and earned a scholarship after high school to play collegiate band. These days, he enjoys playing with a live band and is honing his signature style—rapping while playing the keyboard along with a live band.

Last year, Cash Colione released a record with Boosie Badazz that garnered more than 1 million views. From shows to festivals including SXSW, the artist loves the spotlight and thrives onstage. While he is open to connecting with the right collaborators for his vision and music, Cash Colione—who is signed to the independent label Deal Wit It—has dreams to “go as far as I can go independently.” No goal is unreachable to Cash Colione, who hopes to sell a million records in one week as an independent artist.

On the side, Cash Colione also writes jingles for small businesses—including one for Goldrush Show-bar currently in rotation on Atlanta Radio. There is truly nothing that the artist can’t do where music is concerned.
