One genre alone can’t contain BrittKatt, the all-genre musician ready to shake up the music industry. Blending and playing across genres, BrittKatt explores various musical styles to deliver fresh sounds to listeners. From rap to rock to pop to emo, the artist leaves no musical stone unturned as she lives out her goals and dreams of inspiring people through music. Her latest single, “Shade Room” is the confidence booster we didn’t know we needed (and now can’t live without).

“If you have haters—which everyone does—they get you down. But in the shade room, you’re not going to hear anything they say. You shut it out,” explains BrittKatt of the meaning behind her new single. “I want to inspire people and give them the confidence boost they need. In today’s world with everything going on, people need that confidence boost. I like making people feel good.”

Coming from the small town of Hillsboro, Alabama, BrittKatt is as friendly and bubbly as a person can be. “My town is so tiny that if you drove past it you wouldn’t know it’s a town you passed,” she jokes. When she’s not striking up lighthearted conversation, BrittKatt talks seriously about her main passion: music. “I want listeners to know that I’m not just going to try to do rap and hip hop. I like other genres. If I do a rap album, then I’m probably going to do a rock album and so on,” she shares. “I want to be able to do a multitude of things and inspire people to broaden their horizons, too.”

Before she became a focused musician, BrittKatt—otherwise known as Brittany Clay—studied accounting in college. Neglecting her childhood dream of creating music, BrittKatt continued along the usual educational track before she finally gave herself the chance she deserved to go after what she truly wanted—pursuing a career in entertainment (including modeling and acting, too).

When writing music, BrittKatt likes to refer to other artists for inspiration. “I like to see what vibe I’m feeling from an artist or go outside and look at nature. When I’m listening to other songs, I think about what I could come up with. I go by the vibe and it varies from genre to genre.”

Reflecting on her journey thus far, BrittKatt modestly admits she’s come a long way. “I’m proud of moments like this—I’ve never done anything like this. It’s a good experience and I just really love the fact that I get to be able to do something like this.” Ultimately, she wants to be someone listeners can look up to—especially those who don’t have a strong role model or support system in their lives.

What’s up next for the artist? Only time will tell. For now, she’s focused on bringing attention to “Shade Room.” After all, when you’re passionate about your dream, you’re willing to invest the time and energy to making it come true. “When I was younger, I used to rush into things. Now I take my time and let them fall into place.”
