Hip-hop artist Keshawntay—otherwise known as KeyLo_G— weaves rhymes and storytelling to create a powerful sound of his own. Versatile and style full, his sound blends classic hip hop beats with current life experiences to create a handful of projects including his latest single, “Christmas.”

The Las Vegas-bred rapper, who resides in San Antonio, says this about his music: “It’s different—it’s a whole new vibe. I put a lot of different sounds into my own style. That’s the way I am.” When it comes to creating music, KeyLo_G mostly is invested in the vibe—“it’s a vibe, I create vibe music.” He wants listeners to be able to escape into sound when they listen to his music.

A music lover through and through, KeyLo_G isn’t interested in sounding like anyone else, not even his favorite artists. “When I’m writing songs, I just take it as it is. It’s a download. I spit like that,” says the artist of his inspiration. Fueled by his belief in God, KeyLo_G lets the music speak to him and flow out naturally. “I put on a beat, pray over it, and just go ahead and start writing.”

“When I finish writing, it has to sound good to me,” says KeyLo_G. “Once I get my vocals and all that down, I head to the studio. It’s all in the moment.” The rapper works with a producer from Africa to create his fresh sounds.

Of his many projects, “Christmas” is KeyLo_G’s favorite work. “It was made to be a joke song, but to be real, it came off mad authentic,” shares the rapper. “It started out to be something fun when I was making it.” At the end of the day, it was all about the vibe. “I don’t want to put listeners through a guessing game or test. It’s a vibe. I want you to be able lose yourself in the vibe going on around you when my music is playing.”

KeyLo_G has come a long way over the years. “I started off performing in front of friends. Then moved on to making music and posting on Instagram. What I’m proudest of is people being interested enough to be part of my journey. Getting to share it with them.”
