ATLANTA, GA –Musician and rapper KOTA. is making his solo debut on the ATL scene in a multi-genre style–with a hard-hitting response to his past.

Originally from Savannah, GA, KOTA. started playing music when he was 8 which turned into joining various metal bands as lead vocalist through his late teens, opening for groups from Papa Roach to Marshall Tucker Band.

When those bands dissolved, KOTA. decided to join the military and was stationed in Japan and joined a Frank Sinatra cover band. He was missing music and had a knack for impersonating the classic crooner at local piano bars. But hip-hop had always been in his life and creating was something he hadn’t done yet.

“I’ve always liked rap music. I've been raised on Gucci Mane and Lil Wayne especially,” says KOTA. “I knew how to play guitar, so that's why I was in a band. I had no idea at the time how to record rap music, or any music, so it was killing my actual desires.”

He then got his start in hip-hop when relocating to Atlanta and joining group SCHEMAPOSSE, an underground collective including former members GHOSTEMANE and Lil Peep, writing tracks like “You Ain’t Out Here Schemin” while in the group.

KOTA. remained in SCHEMAPOSSE for two years until he parted ways to become a full-time solo artist. “Pocket Watchin’” is his first track on record label UNFOWND MUSIK and is a gateway to KOTA. showing off all his musical sounds. KOTA. describing it along the lines of a “trap, emo, alternative'' mash-up. Slick comebacks on the track don’t make KOTA.’s debut necessarily a “come back,” but only the beginning. KOTA. explains the song is a response to leaving SCHEMAPOSSE due to various disagreements with how things were being done.

“It just kind of fell apart, especially when everybody just started agreeing with me,” says KOTA., who does all writing and production on his tracks, “This is my life, it’s not just a hobby for me.”

Giving it his authenticity and showing his abilities beyond rapping, KOTA.’s upcoming singles will be showing more of his emo-rap range, and his plan is to release a new single every month leading up to an EP release, and to soon become a household name for all genres.
