Russ has always been the kind of artist to explore different sounds.
On his latest release ‘Can’t Get This Right’, he has decided to go to India and pick up one of the most iconic songs to sample — ‘Lag Jaa Gale‘ by Lata Mangeshkar. The song performed by the legendary singer appeared on the 1964 Bollywood thriller Woh Kaun Thi?
Lata Mangeshkar, who is considered to be one of the greatest Indian singers ever, passed away a year ago on Feb. 6, 2022. The sample choice isn’t too surprising as India is one of Russ’ top markets and he recently toured the country with two shows as well.
Russ samples ‘Lag Jaa Gale’ in an interesting way as he lets the sped up melody sit more in the background rather than take over the song. He shared his process of creating the song as well — watch it above. ‘Can’t Get This Right’ definitely has the potential to go big. Listen to it below.
