Instrumentalist, writer, and singer, Rance Vaughn Sr., is ready to make a difference through his music. The Richmond, California native is a family man and a man of God. His newest single, “Feelin Happy,” is a carefree record made to remind us to keep going through hard times.
“I want listeners to feel happy and inspired when they hear my music. No matter what they’re going through, I want to uplift them and change the way they’re feeling. If they’re in a funny way, I’ll change that into a good feeling,” says Vaughn.
From jamming with Stevie Wonder to recording with Walter Hawkins, Rance Vanghn demonstrates the versatility and drive needed to not just play with the greats but to keep up.
“Music is my life, my pride and my joy. My first love is music. Then I got engaged to my wife—but you can’t take my keyboard!” jokes the artist, who is a talented musician on top of all else. “I started playing music at the age of four. First, I played the drums, then at 10 years old, God blessed me with the ability to play the organ, piano, and keyboards,” shares Vaughn of his playing skills.
Not only is Vaughn a skilled musician, he is also a producer. “I am able to write music, arrange, and produce music—all across a variety of genres such as funk, gospel, contemporary, jazz, classical, rap, and R&B. I’m an all-round musician,” shares Vaughn.
Rance Vaughn Sr.’s creative process is straight forward. “First, I’ll go into my home studio and sit there for a minute. Then it comes to me—the music. I get in the zone and let the melodies come to me. When I put on a little beat, I hear the melody and get started. Sometimes I start with a kick and go from there with the melody. Sometimes I’ll go with a bass note and then make the melody.”
His latest song, “Feelin Happy” is like riding in a car, windows down, music up. “It’s a good, beautiful song,” explains Vaughn. “An uplifting song. It’s like that good feeling when you hear music playing in your car while you’re riding along.”
“I want listeners to know that I’m the type of person that encourages people. You can be whatever you want to be. No matter what you’re going through, keep fighting,” shares Vaughn. “My thing is to encourage people not to give up. And if you haven’t been loved, starting loving yourself first.”
