Features : MEET KHRUANGBIN, THE BAND BEHIND JAY ELECTRONICA’S ALBUM OUTRO

Meet Khruangbin, a three piece band from Texas, who are making their DopeHouse debut since I dug into their discography after enjoying the sound bed they laid for Jay Electronica on A Written Testimony‘s outro.

So far, I’ve only got to digest their 2018 album, Con Todo El Mundo, and watched their Tiny Desk concert on NPR (twice), but the trio of Laura Lee (bass), Mark Speer (guitar) and Donald “DJ” Johnson (drums) are dope!

Heavily inspired by the 1960’s and 70’s funk and soul from Thailand (their name translates to “Engine Fly” in Thai), they’ve been known to incorporate music from Spain, Ethiopia and the Middle East as they deliver soulful grooves drenched in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Quentin Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool’ness.

I could go on and on about their sound, but there’s no better way to show you than by providing a few examples for you to enjoy yourself. So, feel free to scroll down and get caught up on the sounds of Khruangbin, below.
