Kayleigh Walker doesn’t follow trends – she starts her own.

“I’m just a normal everyday person,” she says. “I’m just me and I’m embracing who I am.”

The English singer and songwriter’s new single, “Saturdays Coffee With Kiki The Cat” is a perfect example and showcases her unique style influenced by musical theater and commercial pop music.

“I’ve always loved musical theater and I did that for a few years and then I got into commercial pop while I was discovering my writing and something just clicked one day, I can’t explain it,” she says. “I kind of like this rocky edgy vibe I have, using my vocals in different ways to create the sound I’m happy with.”

That resulting sound is both alternative and pop, and Walker keeps trying to push boundaries and see what she can accomplish while thinking outside the box in the studio and with her writing.

“Kiki The Cat” is her second release, following her debut “Psychedelic” that’s already garnered more than 30,000 plays on YouTube and more than double that on Spotify since it was released in August.

“I like to portray a character along with my own personal experiences in life when I’m writing songs,” Walker says. “With ‘Kiki The Cat’ I was creating this woman who lived this everyday 9-to-5 life and when she goes home she goes back to not having anything, no enjoyment. It was quite a sad song and originally I thought it was going to be a ballad but at the last minute I decided to change this song into a really positive, upbeat song with these darkened lyrics which people can relate to. It’s a bit of a weird song but I really enjoyed creating it.”

Walker describes the tune as your subconscious meeting your conscious mind, like a daydream.

The official music video was released in October and features actress/dancer Sienna. She represents a younger version of Kiki who’s dancing like nobody’s watching.

Walker calls it a “perfectly imperfect” video.

“It’s very strange and you wouldn’t expect it with the song,” she says. “That’s what makes it so weird and unique is this dancer that can’t dance performing this younger version. It doesn’t go with the song at all but I think that’s what makes it really good.”

Walker’s next release, a “dark love ballad,” is slated for New Years Day`
