Global artist Luke ATME —from his Italian roots, Luca Tozzi —releases the sentimental ballad, “Pull Me Closer.”

“It’s a breakup song,” explains the artist, who was inspired by the end of a relationship. “At the beginning, it had a sad tone. It was not depressing but romantic, like drowning in your feelings. I started writing it after a breakup with my partner. Then I stopped for six months. When I got back into the studio with it, I didn’t quite like where it was going so I changed the direction. I wanted to bring a good feeling to the song—romantic and nostalgic at the same time.”

“Pull Me Closer” plays on the state of mind of breaking up with someone because it’s not the right time for you to be together—no cheating or any reasons to break up necessarily. “It’s about needing to prioritize other things at that time,” shares Luke. “Neither wants to break up. Both are in love with each other. But there are situations and family and other important things all at that time. It’s not the right time to be together.”

Luke ATME hopes that listeners realize the value of listening to your heart, but “not always doing what your heart wants.” “It’s not the right time at that stage but maybe later on it can be. Don’t think it’s never going to work,” he adds.

Born and raised in Naples, Italy, Luke ATME ignited his passion for music as a teenager, when he began recording covers for online audiences. From the age of 12, Luca took on roles in high school musicals and enjoyed performing in and watching shows. “I really had the feeling I wanted to become a musician,” shares the singer. “My father brought me to see musicals and concerts of Italian singers.”

In 2017, the young musician graduated from the University of West London for music performance and released his first EP, “Loudest!,” in the UK. He went on to win multiple awards including a Golden Award for “Song of the Year,” the AAA4Success Award, and the Golden Award for “Artist of the Year,” as well as the “Premio Internazionale di Poesia.”

The multitalented musician is also a polyglot. “I sing in English… I sing in five languages,” shares Luke ATME. “Mainly in English and Spanish, but I have lyrics in Portuguese and French too. I’ve lived in many places so far, so I try to mix all my cultural backgrounds into my music. It comes natural to me. I have friends around the world and a passion for travel. I use my experiences from everyday life to bring my music to life.”

“Pull Me Closer”—written and sung in English—is distinct from the artist’s usual sound. “It’s a different song from what I usually do,” he shares. “I’m usually more Latin, or Pop, but this is R&B/Soul. It’s a different vibe. It’s fun to experiment with this other side of my artistry,” he adds.

When the song was originally written, it featured an instrumental track with minor chords. “It was a really sad tone on the piano, with a background drum beat and kick—but the piano chords made it sadder,” tells Luke. It was then that the singer decided to keep the parts he loved but uplifted the chords (while preserving the instruments). He also added a kick for an R&B soul sound. “We changed the chords into major to not be as sad.” From there, he changed some of the lyrics, particularly in the chorus, to feature a more positive message. “It’s hopeful, constant, and nostalgic,” adds the artist.

In addition to the upcoming release of his single, Luke is also working on a few shows. Next year, the artist will release a full EP—completely in Spanish—that he just recorded in Madrid.

“I really show a different side of me in these songs,” tells Luke ATME. “This time is challenging. I’m nervous because it’s a different side of me I haven’t shown before. My listeners aren’t used to this kind of song from me. I’m excited to put it out and see what people think.”
