CLEARFIELD, Utah — Meleena Cute is charging back into the music industry with a new attitude and  a couple of new singles, including her latest “Lips Ready and My Hair Done.”

Meleena said she’s ready to make good music and be an entrepreneur in the music business this time around.

“I just love music, but music stagnated me a little bit kind of growing up because I felt like every time I was trying to pursue music, the business part of it would try to overtake me,” Meleena said. “The people that were utilizing the business aspect of it would try to take advantage. But I said, okay, no, stop it. I'll fall all the way back. It got to the point to where I could not make a song because people were looking at me and wanted to copy off what I what I did. So I stopped it. I started making songs in my head. I started to learn the business end of it. So I'm up to the business end of it now.”

One of the first new singles she’s released since rebooting her career was “Lips Ready and My Hair Done,” a song, released on Dec. 2, 2023, that was oddly inspired by an irritating visit from Meleena’s son’s father.

“My producer, Anno Domini of Anno Domini Nation, gave me this beat and I've had it for probably about a month,” Meleena said. “I was listening to it and my son's father came in and he got on my last nerve. And I think that pushed the juices out. I was visualizing. I was visualizing who I want, I was like if I could only have this type of guy that would just want me screaming over him like this. I looked at my baby's father like, just get out. Just get out. And he got out an he left. It was so wonderful and then I finished the song.”

Meleena said she was going through a challenging time when she wrote this song, but it reflects her as a person.

“So this song was me,” Meleena said. “At the time of writing this song I was going through a challenging time and it was like I had no love, so I guess I put love into the song. Yeah, because I'm not with anybody, I'm not with the guy. It's kind of weird how it worked out but I'm visualizing the love that I want or the intimacy that I want in the song.”

Meleena Cute was born in Staten Island and grew up doing hair and becoming a stylist at age 19.

“Music has always been in my background going back to when I did my first talent show in Orlando, Florida,” Meleena said. “That’s when I knew music was for me. My dad, he plays the trumpet, and just listening to him and being around him and his friends in the music business, I learned I loved it.”

Meleena said she’s owned her own hair styling business since she was 19 but now she had to learn about the music business and she has some basic principles she follows when making music.

“I just think that with the music keeping it positive but telling the truth are big deals,” she said. “Me, I'm just so blatantly honest, so I couldn't even be a criminal if I wanted to and I think that's why I don't have money like everybody else, because I think all the liars are super rich. Other than that, I just want to keep it clean. I don't like bashing. I don't want to be in a bashing state of mind as a music artist. I like to be open minded because we never know what a situation would do to our choices. I've always looked at a business situation as a growing situation and I’m looking forward to growing in music.”
