British singer/songwriter Kayleigh Walker has been hard at work the past year creating genre bending music, and most recently she released “The Devil’s a Handsome Man,” which is an alternative pop rock ballad that starts slow and picks up to a be a heavy rocker.

“I wanted to do a song that was a little bit more using a different range of my vocals,” she said. “I started writing it New Years Eve last year after a break up, and just reflecting off of the what happened the year before.”

She wrote the lyrics before she had the melody, and felt like she wanted to express herself in an 80s rock ballad style. It has hints of a Madonna vibe in the beginning points of the track, while then taking off with an anthemic rock progression complete with descriptive lyrics.

“I’m not going to lie- sometimes I don’t know where it comes from,” said Walker. “The inspiration. Sometimes it’s just a process. You don’t know where it comes from and it just happens.

The 32-yard old singer said she has always been involved with music from a young age and recently she has kicked things up a notch, making music and doing everything independently. From song to song that she has put out over the last year, the style is drastically different. She said she tends to just go for it.

“I’m not very aware that my songs are sounding different, and at this point in time it is me expressing myself as an artist,” Walker said.

Walker wants her listeners to know that if life is in front of you and crumbling, you can just pick yourself back up and live past it, move on and carry on.

Most of the time Walker starts with writing lyrics before a song exists. She will hum along and since she doesn’t play an instrument, she will create the music this way, straight from her mind.

“It is just me and one producer, and we literally create everything together,” said Walker. “It’s simple but it works.”

She said everything is done from scratch. Walker knows what she wants, and this is the best way to get it done.

“I like to push boundaries,” Walker said.

Walker’s debut single titled “Psychedelic” was released in August 2023, which was complete with a music video directed by Eline Powell and produced by The Lennox Brothers. Powell is a Belgian actress who is best known for acting in the TV series Siren. The song is about escapism of music, touching on the theme augmenting reality to the unknown and from the physical self to the higher self. The song has been played more than 81,000 times on Spotify.

She then released the single “Saturdays Coffee with Kiki the Cat,” which came out in October 2023 and has nearly 111,000 listens on Spotify. This is about a futuristic woman who has a lucid dream that reflects on her life while drinking coffee. The music video is her younger self having fun and dancing. It was performed by actress and dancer Sienna, with the video by Wayne Lennox. Walker also recently released the single, Marilyn,” which is a song of multiple meanings in her lyrics and vocals.

“It is a little bit of everything,” Walker said. “I don’t like to pigeon hole myself.”

Something Walker is proud of about her music is that she has convinced herself to not give up and keep creating for her listeners to enjoy.

“I am proud of myself for not giving up,” Walker said. “I love what I do. Everyone should love what they do.”

She added, “I am a typical, everyday girl and I don’t have an ego. I’m just enjoying what I’m doing. I want my fans to be relate to the songs to any aspect, and appreciate the music that I’m putting out to the world.”

A new album is in the works and it is expected to be completed in January, set to be released at the beginning of 2024.
