JPEGMAFIA has provided an update for the new year, admitting that he had to alter his plans a little but that he’s still on track to release new music in 2024.

On Sunday (December 31), the rapper and producer shared a message on social media in which he explained that he needs a little more time to finish his current project rather than rush it like he usually does.

“Took a break for the holidays,” he wrote. “I’m finishing the album i was supposed to release this year. My plan actual plan for this album was to release it on January 1st. i was going to say nothing, and then do a fake apology on the 31st, and then surprise drop on the 1st today. But i always rush to finish things.

“I apologize to my fans i promised an album to this year, the album will be out 2024. i just have to keep working, to make it as best as possible for you. Happy holidays. To all the people in my life i love and that love me. & happy new year to all, even my enemies and their ugly ass kids and families. I will see you all next.”

Peggy didn’t release any solo material last year, though he did team up with Danny Brown on the explosive Scaring the Hoes joint LP in the first half of 2023.

The duo went on to tour the record extensively after Brown finished his stint in rehab, which he checked into right as the album dropped.

In a 3.8/5 review of their collaborative effort, HipHopDX’s Nina Hernandez wrote: “Incredibly aggressive in both production and content, [JPEGMAFIA’s] debut collaboration with fellow Hip Hop eccentric Danny Brown is a tribute to creative synergy and going against the mainstream. The result is a boisterous mashup of ideas and subgenres that is satisfying when it lands and unintelligible when it doesn’t.”

About the record’s unorthodox sonics, she added: “In the moments where it works, Scaring the Hoes is dark and raw, unapologetically weird, and bitterly satirical. Brown, the genre’s beloved oddball, meets his kindred spirit in JPEGMAFIA, a rapper and producer with a penchant for jarring ambient influences and absurd barbs.

“It’s easy to question the potential byproduct of such a union. Therefore, JPEGMAFIA’s own uncertainty about it makes sense: ‘Play somethin’ for the bitches/ How the fuck we supposed to make money off this shit?‘”
