Features : A.I. Minus needed music for a screenplay, and the result is his catchy debut album Killer Donuts Musical Soundtrack

A.I. Minus once poured his heart and soul into writing a screenplay, as a means of creative expression, and, potentially, a new career.

But nobody would read what he wrote, so he decided to turn the project into an audiobook. And then he thought: wait a minute, this audiobook would go well with some music, too. And then, he had to learn how to sing and produce his own tunes.

“And then I went and did it,” he says. “I’m still learning and trying to get better at it. The technology is here.”

The result from the Florida-based artist who refers to himself as a musical audiobook producer is A.I. Minus’ debut project, Killer Donuts Musical Soundtrack, which he released in November. The soundtrack features 23 tracks crafted by A.I. Minus while waiting out recent hurricane seasons – and working through one bad storm.

“A hurricane came through and it was blowing as I was working on the music,” he says. “Anything could have happened and that inspired the story about somebody trying to get out of that, going to the west coast and just getting away from hurricanes. I have a background in horror, that’s what I first learned how to write, so I put a little bit of that in there. There’s some suspense. It’s mysterious.”

The project opens with “The Sphere,” a lighthearted new wave track that transports listeners to Las Vegas and its new entertainment spectacle while A.I. Minus encourages everyone to “come dance the night away at the biggest ball” that can host “immersive shows, concerts and events like never before.”

A.I. Minus explores multiple genres on the soundtrack, including heavier rock music, beats-oriented acoustic songs and hip hop, and he says approaching the project as a soundtrack gave him the chance to jump from genre to genre.

“I think in a regular movie soundtrack you could go with different genres,” he says.

A.I. Minus recently traveled to Miami to work on remixes with some hip hop producers he knows, and plans to release a future single about “mysterious beings” and a “veil of secrecy” inspired by some strange encounters he had there.
