Since her first release last year, ’Ichi’, Ptychka has ventured through an evolving artistry arriving at her latest single, “Berghain.”

The song is inspired, at least partially, by time spent in Berlin on a film shoot.

“I’d never felt such resonance from a city before Berlin. It’s hyper transient, high frequency and way more open than any other city I’ve experienced. We were shooting a film and I decided to be constantly in character, which meant wearing theatrical dresses I made with a giant teddy bear wrapped around my back… Something which probably also sublimated my experience! I felt embraced by the whole city and often in a strange, dreamy state of being in love.

I wrote ‘Berghain’ much later though and it’s not even really about Berghain but about loads of other nights and mornings at indescribable parties where I had magical experiences dancing and absorbing the music.”

Berlin also has a rich, dark history which is impossible to ignore just wandering the city, remarks Ptychka.

Most artists distinguish themselves by a sensitivity to the atmosphere but also to the political/ societal climate, malaise, zeitgeist or however you may call it.

“Each day it seems like the world is becoming more complicated and terrifying. What is most daunting is what’s unknown. Existential threats, nuclear or AI, along with endless misplaced suffering and loss. Also, being so connected makes everything so much more real and tangible.”

“Berghain” evokes nostalgia for a certain simplicity and innocence that presently seem over the rainbow… A chimera? Did she capture something essential?  Find out for yourself…

One of the defining elements in Ptychka’s discography is the variety of languages. She assures that it’s not a flex but simply a true reflection of who she is.
