From the time he was very young, laseer Sobhan was surrounded by music from his family. He remembers watching certain family members play instruments and get completely lost in the moment. And it didn’t take him long to realize that certain “special” songs could evoke emotions that nothing else would.

Now Sobhan–better known as Zulcan, an independent music producer–hopes to do the same, but in the electronic realm. The 14-year-old artist from Bangladesh is fast making a name for himself in the dance music scene after making a splash in 2023 with seven singles and a four-song EP.

“The experiences with my family helped me to recognize how special music was and the profound impact it can have on an individual,” Zulcan says. “It led to me latching on to music production and making active efforts to get better at it. I’ve now been producing music for around two years and hopefully there are many more to come.”

His frenetic dance track, “I FEEL IT,” broke out last fall and he followed it up with the RISE EP in late October. Then came singles like “AWAKEN” and “ROZA.”

Zulcan is off to a strong start in 2024 with his sublime new single “In The Skies,” released February 11. Unlike his previous tracks, which are more spontaneous creations, Zulcan had something specific in mind to open the new year.

“I wanted to mix almost levitating and atmospheric sonics with trap style drums,” he says. “I’m not sure why, but I ended up liking the way it sounded. The lyrics are from a sample that I specifically chose because even if it didn’t make sense to what was happening in my life at that time, it spoke to me on a much deeper level.”

The song has a nostalgic quality to it, and rather than being designed for the dance floor, “In The Skies,” calls for a more intimate and relaxing atmosphere.
