Singer-songwriter Alex Alexion is set to release her upcoming single, “Hold Out Hope,” a dreamy ode to inspire hope. Due out March 22, the indie-folk single features neoclassical influences while showcasing Alex’s musical talents.
Growing up, Alex immersed herself in the music of strong female musicians—Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, and Tracy Chapman sowed the early seeds of inspiration. From an early age, she picked up the piano and eventually, the guitar.
Hailing from Massachusetts, the LGBTQ artist relocated to New York City in her twenties to begin her musical career. In addition to her earlier influences, Alex turned to the music of Brandi Carlile, who, like Alex, began small and looked forward to bigger dreams. These days, Alex lives in Seattle, Washington, where she is making her mark in the live performance scene.
Alex Alexion sees music as a superpower, a means to connect with people with more depth than words. While dealing with anxiety and everyday obstacles, Alex turns to music for solace.
“Hold Out Hope” begins with a piano introduction—an upbeat opener that soon welcomes Alex’s vocals, full of character and story. The single is rhythmic, captivating, nostalgic.
Behind the song is the drive to inspire hope. “It’s my way of tapping into staying hopeful, reconnecting with those positive feelings you had as a kid,” shares Alex. “They go away as you grow up. This song paints scenes from those memories and the feeling that the world is this magical place. The message of the song is trying to bring those feelings back as adults.”
At a time when hope is much needed in the world, Alex’s message speaks volumes. “It’s a personal message, but I also want listeners to take away a positive meaning,” she adds. “I want them to find hope from when we were younger, regardless of what version that hope is.”
To create the single, Alex Alexion focused first on the music. “I always start with the music, then once something sounds special to me, I go off that feeling and start to tell the story,” shares Alex of her writing process. “Hold Out Hope” came together quickly. “It went through many stages, but I knew it was special,” she adds. Partnering with Australian producer New Haven (who has produced hits for artists like Imagine Dragons), Alex created a full sound to create the final, uplifting version of the track.
In addition to her current single, Alex Alexion is breaking into the live music scene in her new home of Seattle. “I’m happy to be breaking ground here and get a fan base going. It’s a great music scene.”
