Features : S7GMA takes a dive into the beginning of a new forever in new single titled “Now”

Texas based rapper S7GMA’s new track “Now” is a representation of who he has been over the past five years. He gathered aspects from over the course of that time, and realized there has been so much going on, and that he has grown immensely.

“Life has been a life without you,” he said. “Time does not wait for anybody, so why sit here and stress? Why get upset about things that you can’t take with you to your grave? I rewired myself, and this is a beginning of a new forever. This is now, and now is forever.”

The creation of the instrumental portion started last year and the lyrics followed, and he said the piano based intro is the perfect way to start his album slated to come out in the fall. He admitted he didn’t think much of the beat in its infancy, but he picked it back up at the beginning of this year when he was finishing his project. S7GMA spent two months making everything perfect on the track, saying that he didn’t want to rush it because the song meant so much to him.

“This is a piece of art that can stand the test of time forever and ever again,” he said. “No matter what generation or era, this is something people can listen to.”

S7GMA is a 27-year-old rapper who was born in North Philadelphia, but moved to Texas when he was nine. This was right around the same time he started getting into creating music, mostly focused on making parody tracks with his buddies.

“I’ve just been on a journey since then,” S7GMA said. “With parody music we were making music with a Lonely Island type of vibe, but I saw that my friends were making real music with hooks and choruses. It was so put together and I thought that was impossible at the time.”

This was at age 14, and that was when S7GMA went and bought a microphone at the store, and he’s been at it since. He knew he had to take the risk to get the reward. S7GMA explained that he’s a big fan of alternative hip-hop, and he knew that once he put the pencil to the paper, his talent could be broadcasted, too. Music is simply his outlet.

“I went from a nobody on the football team to a guy who was the best rapper in school,” he said. “I’m not really one to express myself socially and let people into the mind of S7GMA. I’d rather just put it on an instrumental and they can find out through there. It’s a great way to express myself.”

When creating a track, S7GMA starts by making a beat through playing around on his piano. He’ll get a solid melody going and pace around his living room until the beat speaks to him, or he finds inspiration from what he’s written down in his notebook.

“I can expand on the beat, like repotting a plant,” he said. “That’s what I do with my lyrics. My writing style is really based on how I’m feeling at the time.”

S7GMA explained that he has diagnosed depression so his mood can vary depending on his environment. As soon as his inspiration hits, he has to get to his computer and create so that thought doesn’t get away from him. Sometimes he will go through all the beats he has put together, or otherwise he works off a bar or verse that he can try to wrap a beat around.

He started making beats about three years ago after searching the internet for them. S7GMA said everyone was making a tight beat, which he felt was cool, but it wasn’t his own. He learned the ropes and now he is out there recording beautiful music.

“It’s not always about how many people click on it, or who clicks on it,” he said. “I have finally become a fan of my own music and I can’t sit on it any longer.”

S7GMA is most proud of the quality of music he is putting out these days, since it is all of his own doing.

“I have really gotten to the point where everything is me now when I make music,” he said. “The instrumental is mine. I can shape and record it, and go back into the beats to have my lyrics come out more. It’s all in my hands. The graphics, the mixing, mastering, the writing. When it comes to S7GMA, it’s 100 percent my world.”
