European sensation One-T is set to release a new single, “SUPERSTAR,” featuring Boogie Fre$h, available June 14, 2024, on all platforms. “SUPERSTAR” marks the return of One-T to a soundtrack of hip-hop and electro that is sure to set the stage for summer.

One-T began in the early 2000s through the collaboration of two band members—Eddy and Thomas.

“We were doing a virtual band—that’s what we wanted to do,” shares Eddy. “So, we came out with the little character One-T you can see in the music video.”

From there, One-T came to life with a cast of other characters. “We didn’t know what to do with it. We wanted to make a TV show but decided to make a band instead.”

Looking back to the early 2000s, One-T took the stage as a UFO in front of an audiovisual landscape. At the time, One-T and Gorillaz were the premier artists gaining recognition for creating graphic worlds where the characters were the main attraction.

In 2001, the band released its first single, which quickly gained popularity and became a silver record in France and across Europe. One-T made its way to the club scene, building momentum in the lead-up to their 2002 album.

Then “The Magic Key” was born. While it took time for the song to gain traction, it soon sparked interest through radio plays in France, Germany, and beyond.

“We were in the middle of summer 2003,” shares Eddy, “when it was the second-most-played track on the radio in Europe.”

When “The Magic Key” made headlines across the globe, Cool-T, another character, died and came back to life in a music video for millions across the world to see, accompanied by orchestral hip-hop instrumentals.

Since its inauguration, “The Magic Key” has garnered over 100 million streams and multiple gold and platinum awards. The timeless hit continues to attract audiences young and old across the world. Artists continue to recreate the single, including the popular remix by Trinix that scored impressive plays across French radio.

The song became a staple of electro pop in Europe, remerging in popularity over the years. During that window, the band took a break for some 15 years, only to return to producing music during the pandemic.

Now, One-T is back as rebellious as ever, ready to share a new song. Set to the vocals of Californian rap singer Boogie Fre$h and the guitar riffs of the late Radim Hladik of the Czech band Blue Effect, One-T graces the stage once again.

One-T recruited Boogie Fre$h to sing on their recent single, “Check Up,” and the upcoming “SUPERSTAR.” Boogie Fre$h brings his distinct African sound to the electro pop bass for a vibe uniquely theirs. While upbeat, the single is an ode to loved ones near and far.

“Whether it’s dad, mom, brother, sister, or anyone who has passed away, they are stars over your head. They’re here with you to help you out in life,” shares One-T.

“SUPERSTAR” conveys a sense of gratitude and admiration for influential people in life, which are referred to as “superstars.” These individuals have endured challenges (“made it through the fire”) and continue to inspire life.

There’s a spiritual connection, suggesting the presence of these superstars even after they’re gone, providing guidance and comfort (“whispering advice through the sea and the trees”). The recurring theme emphasizes the importance of faith and recognizing one’s value and potential (“just know that you matter, you’re somebody, you superstar”).

To write the song, One-T collaborated with Boogie Fre$h virtually—all while safely quarantined in their respective homes during the pandemic.

“We made it in two to three days going back and forth. Sending the ideas and lyrics—the spirit of the song just came out,” adds Eddy.

Listeners can look forward to more music from One-T this year.
