To introduce herself to audiences in 2024, Nikena, a Jamaican-born, New York-based Pop and R&B artist, wanted something sexy, fun, and danceable—something people can vibe with.

“Hold Me” does exactly that.  The song is sultry, the video is hot, and Nikena’s voice provides the fire.

“Initially, I was aiming for an R&B track,” she said. “But as I delved deeper into writing, it took on a slightly different vibe.  I wanted it to capture the experience of being instantly drawn to someone at the club and spending the night completely lost in the moment while dancing together.”

The intro and verses are soft and dreamy, gradually building in intensity. The beat kicks in at the pre-chorus and chorus, transitioning from R&B to a touch of dancehall.

Nikena’s dream has always been to write and perform her own music, inspired by R&B and pop legends like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, and Rihanna.

In 2019, she began actively pursuing her dream. She first released “Hold Me” late last year. This year, she is promoting it because she has a superb video to accompany the track.

“I know it’s a song people will enjoy, and we are in the season of fun. The weather is hot, and this track will raise the temperature even more. It’s fun, sexy, and alluring, and it’s the perfect song for the summer. The video reminds me of basement parties of the early 2000s when people danced and had fun without fear.”

She writes her own lyrics and creates the melodies, then goes to her producers for the beats and finishing touches. Two more songs are written and done, and more are in various stages of progress. Her goal is to complete an EP this year.

Her catalogue is small but full of great music, fun lyrics and her extraordinary vocal talent.

Nikena mentioned that producing the video required everything, from overseeing the entire music video production to continuing to write and managing all the promotion.

“I’m very proud of the end result.”
