Latin urban artist DIWAN blends his love for Miami’s club scene with his rich Dominican heritage in his debut single, “Desacatao,” a track that gets the blood pumping and the body moving like a night out on South Beach.

“I just started up in the music industry and wanted to bring a little of that joy, the Dominican sound, and rhythm into my artistry,” DIWAN says. “I grew up around producers, always in the background learning. That’s how I fell in love with music and knew I had to share my sound with the world.”

Born in White Plains, N.Y., and raised in the Bronx, DIWAN eventually went down to Miami, where the party never stops. He also spent time living in the Dominican Republic, his family’s homeland, which played a huge role in shaping his sound and identity.

“Growing up in a multicultural environment, I had all types of music around me,” DIWAN explains. “My mom listened to salsa, my friends were into rap, and then I got into artists like Drake, Future, and 21 Savage. But I always stayed connected to my roots - El Alfa, Romeo Santos, and Dominican music were always a part of me.”

A track born from pure vibes and produced by OGDETRUYELO, “Desacatao” came together in the heat of the moment.

“I’m the type of person who writes lyrics in the studio and I don’t overthink it,” DIWAN says. “It’s all about the vibe. I just want to create a sound that’s as enjoyable as possible. This debut is a full dembow - something raw and truly Dominican.”

When making a track, DIWAN always starts with the beat. The bass, the snare, the overall energy, all of it guides his creative process.

“You’re in the studio, you feel the beat, and little by little, the lyrics come to you,” DIWAN explains. “It’s a mix of freestyle and polish, but at the end of the day, I go with what feels right.”

Sung entirely in Spanish, “Desacatao” doesn’t require translation to be felt. The song’s message is as simple as - let’s party, grab some drinks, and have fun.

“Sometimes artists take music too seriously. There are moments where you have to, but there are also moments where you just need to spread happiness,” DIWAN says. “Being at a club, a house party, wherever you are, the spirit of this song is about dancing and having a good time.”

Since its release, DIWAN has worked with local DJs to get “Desacatao” played at Miami clubs, and the crowd reaction has been electric.

“Hearing my song in the club, watching people dance to it even when they don’t know who I am makes it absolutely amazing,” DIWAN shares.

The track is rooted in reggaeton but brings an even faster, high-energy Dominican twist. DIWAN says this will be the “most Dominican” track on his upcoming EP, which is currently in the works, with new singles dropping in the coming weeks.

“I wanted to start with this song because it represents my culture and lets people know who I am,” he says. “I love the Dominican Republic. I love where my parents are from. And I want to bring that way of partying into the American market.”

Following the path of artists like Bad Bunny, who put Puerto Rico on the global map, DIWAN hopes to push Dominican music to new heights.

“I strive to be one of the pioneers of Dominican music reaching everywhere from the U.S. to Beijing, China,” DIWAN says. “I want this sound to be heard all over the world.”

Turn up the volume and experience the energy of “Desacatao”, now streaming on all platforms. Keep up with DIWAN’s journey as he takes Dominican music global!
