PENOMECO’s track “BOLO”  features YDG and is an afrobeats song that will get listeners dancing. With its relaxing guitar melodies and smooth drums, it's a track perfectly fitting for a party setting. The track was first released in 2021 and has entered a new era of popularity due to the Netflix series Squid Game. With PENOMECO being an Asian artist, crafting a song in the afrobeats genre makes the track unique and unlike anything else people have heard before. Asian artists have delved into a variety of genres in the music world, especially in recent years with more and more artists developing a fanbase in the United States. Considering afrobeats is a genre that also has grown in popularity in the United States too, he shared that he intended to make sure the track was something that honored the genre.

“I dedicated a significant amount of time to ensuring that I didn't harm the inherent qualities of their genre and to respecting it.” he said.

Making an afrobeats song was something that PENOMECO knew he wanted to do and by respecting it, he knew the song would come out well. For PENOMECO, “BOLO” is a song that required him to go beyond just making a song people would like. He wanted to make something that was intentional and focused. The song needed to be looked at on a deeper level.

“I was focusing on conveying emotions and imagery within the thematic consciousness of a song. While that approach remains unchanged, I've recently been paying closer attention to drawing out more primal and instinctive appeal. Whenever I encounter a new genre and find it fresh and enjoyable to delve into, I'm the type to immediately start working on it. Currently, I'm further solidifying my ability to interpret this genre in my own way.” he said

Making an afrobeats song already made the song special and getting a feature from YDG was something very special for PENOMECO too. By creating the song with so much intentionality, listeners can be confident that the two artists created something that they both are happy with. Since PENOMECO was a fan of YDG before he collaborated with him, having his work praised by him meant alot.

“It's a true honor to work with him and I also grew up listening to his music since I was young. I could immediately feel his innate talent when I received his recording, and it was an exhilarating experience. I paid special attention to the bridge part that I sing with YDG. Actually, during the work, I focused on this part because I wanted YDG to sing it, and I was really happy when YDG praised it as the best lyrics he had heard that year.” he said.

PENOMECO sings, raps, writes songs and also produces. This level of talent ensures he stands out from other artists. By having multiple roles, he is able to execute even more creativity with his music. He’s able to make sure all aspects of the music are exactly how he wants them to be.

“I find the greatest satisfaction when I personally feel that the final product perfectly matches my drawing, with no more than a 1% margin of error. In the production process, I have to rely solely on my musical intuition to bring the song to completion.”

For him, creativity can be a difficult endeavor but it’s worth it in the end because of how many people can be positively impacted by the music he creates. Artists often deal with pressures of all kinds when making music but these feelings fade away when PENOMECO sees the happiness his music gives his fans.

“...I believe it's essential to always have confidence in my instincts. The psychological stress, of course, and the accompanying emptiness cannot be ignored. Knowing these aspects, I continue to make music anyway because I realize it's a process of finding my reason for being and gaining self-esteem when my creations significantly impact someone. My dream is to continue living life making music as long as I have the strength and as long as there are people who seek me out.”

“BOLO” featuring YDG is out now on all streaming platforms.
