Indie pop artist Jett Jenkins is releasing her EP Tender Love Like A Criminal on March 7, 2025 and her single “Rooftops” is a preview of the central theme of the project. The music is centered around the topic of leaving relationships that no longer serve an individual. She approaches this topic through a variety of songs that blend multiple genes across the EP, with her songwriting and the production combining excellently. This is sure to be a relatable topic for listeners as they can reflect on their past and current relationships through Jett’s honest and vulnerable lyrics.

“With Tender Love Like A Criminal, I talk about how in some relationships you give so much love and never get anything back. It’s a give and no take situation.” she said.

The track “Rooftops” is one that’s been in Jett’s life for years but has found new life with this release. Originally written by her in highschool, the song has transformed across the years with her most recent inspiration to revise it coming from pop sensation Olivia Rodrigio. The song discusses the feeling of leaving a relationship and captures how that can be a good thing in some cases.

“I want people to feel the sense of weight being lifted from leaving the relationship. I want them to understand that from the outside, you can clearly see that you’re better off leaving it.” she said.

Sonically, “Rooftops” is an emotional track with Jett’s lyrics and the background vocals creating an infectious atmosphere soaked in poignant reflection. With a steady and powerful drum pattern and guitars, Jett’s lyrics pair the production flawlessly. This seamless combination comes as a result of the streamlined process between Jett and her producer, Nick Brown.

“I wrote the lyrics with the melody in my mind and sent the voice memo to my producer Nick Brown, who created the whole track for me. Then I go and record with him. It’s a really fun process to collaborate that way.” she said.

On Tender Love Like A Criminal, Jett approaches this running theme by using different genres throughout the tracklist.  Being able to swap between genres and blend them is a testament to her influences and skill as an artist. Whether it’s the synths on “What You Want From Me” or the emotionally driven guitars of “Springsteen”, listeners are sure to fall in love with how well Jett’s poetic lyrics blend with any production she’s on.

“I don’t really stick to one genre because I listen to and have been influenced by so many genres. I like to explore the different sounds that can be created and don’t want to be known for one specific sound. I want to be known for blending all sounds.” she said.

Tender Love Like A Criminal is an EP where Jett Jenkins shares a piece of her mind and her heart and “Rooftops” is the single that encapsulates that. With the full project releasing on March 7, listeners will not have to wait long to dive into the pieces of her life that she’s sharing with the world.

“This project is centered around relationships that I feel most people go through. I was navigating these relationships after I moved to New York and was growing up as an adult. These songs are like letters to the people that used to be in my life.” she said.
