Features : Forgetmyname Returns to Music After a Year Long Hiatus with New Single “Daydream”

When you go to Forgetmyname’s page on Spotify, something immediately stands out. While her name is already unique, you’ll also notice the latest single “Daydream” is the first one in a year. After dealing with some things, Forgetmyname returned to the music and plans to keep it coming throughout 2025. This single builds on the sound that her previous music had, with the vintage aesthetic of the production being at the forefront and the power of the songwriting being just as prominent.

The eye-catching artist name “Forgetmyname” has a certain irony to it both within the name itself and its origin. She happily explained where it came from and how accepting it was a blend of coincidence and going with the flow.

“Forgetmyname was a username I had been using online for various things. I never planned to use it for anything beyond that. When I started doing music, I did know I didn’t want to use my real name with it. I wanted my music to have its own world. One time I was taking an Uber and the driver told me I would know what the name should be when it happens naturally. I didn’t dwell on that heavy and one day I realized my license plate had ‘FMN’ on it and that was basically my confirmation that I didn’t need to second guess or overthink it.  The universe told me to use ‘Forgetmyname.’ she said.

Releasing “Daydream” was important to Forgetmyname because it was the catalyst for her getting back on track with making music. The song’s lyrics came from a place of honesty as she had just been through a breakup and writing the song was easy for her. The reflection of the relationship was the core focus of the song and putting it out was the catalyst for the music writing journey to resume.

“This song felt like the right one because it was the song that got me out of the little hole I had dug myself in mentally. The lyrics came to me easily. I was wondering if I was taking up the same space in the person’s head that they were taking up in mine. Sometimes we try to run away from things but I just wanted to face them.” she said.

Songwriting is something that Forgetmyname holds near and dear to her heart but as with any skill, there are multiple layers to it. Naturally, she approaches it with authenticity at the forefront but also, with a certain sense of flexibility. By not forcing the lyrics to come to her, the songwriting process is never hard. Sometimes a song goes in a direction and then as time passes, they look at the topic differently but appreciate the fact the song was written at the time where they felt one way and it’s okay that she feels differently now.

“When writing songs, there’s a relief that comes with not forcing the lyrics to come. Sometimes when looking back on songs, I realize I captured exactly how I was feeling in that moment and can understand why I felt that way at that point. And at other times, I don’t understand what I wrote. But, I don’t overthink it, I believe in it. The thoughts came to me at the time subconsciously and they’re supposed to be there.” she said.

The nostalgic elements within “Daydream” are strong as Forgetmyname and her producer Grandy wanted to craft something that felt like it was from the 80s but still had modern relatability. As an alternative pop artist, Forgetmyname can blend multiple elements in tracks to create something sonically unique and engaging. By building on nostalgia, the two of them were able to craft something that people not even from the time period could still find an appreciation for.

“I feel people from this generation hold things with a retro feel to a different standard. It’s music rooted in the type of music our parents grew up with and it’s like we’re living our lives through theirs because of that in a way.” she said.

For any artist, releasing music for the first time brings emotions of all kinds with nervousness being one of them. A debut single, EP, album etc, it all comes with a certain amount of pressure. But, returning to music after being absent from it for a year is an entirely different feeling. For Forgetmyname, the word that best described the feeling was “nerve wracking.”

“I hold my releases from 2023 very close to my heart. Now, I’m heading into a new era with my music and I’m actually a little more nervous but still excited.” she said.

“Daydream” is only the first single from Forgetmyname for this year and they plan to continue releasing consistently throughout the year and will continue writing new songs too.

“I’m in a space where I’m really loving the productivity of everything I’m doing. When I returned to music, I knew I wanted to return with a sense of consistency. I’ve got a great team of videographers and directors that I work with, so visuals will be coming with the music too.” she said.
