Russ’s newest project, W!LD, is centered on leaving behind comfort zones and embracing what lies ahead. The independent heavyweight has shared in past Instagram posts that he is still discovering more about himself. Although he admits the process feels “chaotic,” he is learning to embrace the uncertainty that comes with it.

“I spent a lot of time chasing answers, and I think this album is just me learning to be ok having questions,” he said before it dropped. Now that Russ feels less tied down, he’s ready to step into the next stage of his journey.

In a recent post about the deluxe edition, The Elephant & The Rider, he explained that this part of the story focuses on “navigating the uncertainty that follows.”

The Georgia-born rapper and songwriter revealed that the idea came from a psychological lesson taught by a mentor. “The elephant is your body (instincts, emotions, and the nervous system) and the rider is your mind.” He added that you need to help your “elephant” feel safe, earn its trust, and move together. This album is about learning to lead myself, that way, not with force, but with understanding.”

That philosophy also shapes how he’s rolling out this deluxe version. Instead of dropping the entire project at once, Russ plans to share it one track at a time. The first release is “Recognize” featuring singer Jessy Blakemore—the two links up for a heartfelt relationship story that cuts deep.

In the song, the man struggles to truly see his partner or show her the love she deserves, yet she continues to hold on to him. At the same time, he feels invisible, almost like a ghost. The push and pull of that imbalance makes for a heavy emotional track, and the two artists bring it to life beautifully. Listen to it below.
