Morgan Taylor is a St. Louis R&B singer/songwriter who wants to bring the soul back to the world of R&B. After dropping her debut EP, Love Bombed (Love, Loss and Lessons) in January of this year and graduating from the Berklee College of Music, she’s back with another single titled “Outside (That’s PeriodT).” This track is a self-love anthem that captures feelings of self-confidence and happiness despite what others may be saying or doing.

“I want people to feel uplifted and empowered. The song is about not letting people steal your peace or joy and walking away from something that doesn’t make you happy.” she said.

The way “Outside (That’s PeriodT)” came to be is journey of authenticity and adjustment. After originally finding a beat on YouTube and writing something to it, Morgan went to the studio next, heard a new beat, collaborated with some songwriters and the song transformed in real time. The track’s tranquil but emotional atmosphere creates the space for Morgan’s relatable vocals to shine.

Morgan’s songwriting is rooted in being vulnerable without sharing too much. She wants to share her experiences through life and relationships but the focus is the emotions and lessons she learned from them. She wants listeners to be able to relate to what she’s gone through and find their own strength through her lyrics.

With Morgan’s roots being Gospel music, she understands the power of emotional connection through music. In her younger days, she actually released an EP called Jesus Loves Me and had the opportunity to open for world renowned Gospel artist J. Moss.

“I always want to tell a story with my music and find a connection with people…Gospel is all about connecting with people and it lifts people up. While my music isn’t Gospel, I still want people to have that connection. I want people to feel something and take something from the song, not let it go in one ear and out the other. My music is always going to have those Gospel roots.” she said.

“Like Aretha Franklin, Whitney Hosuton and others, they came from that Gospel background and never lost that touch. You can hear it throughout all their songs.” she said.

Morgan’s EP from earlier this year, Love Bombed (Love, Loss and Lessons), is one that chronicles the beginning, middle and end of a relationship she was in. Listeners will experience the ebbs and flows she went through with the final lesson being that she made it through it all and can look back and get something from every moment of it.

“It starts out with the lovey dovey stage, then you’re wondering ‘Do I still like this person?’ then at the end you’re like ‘No, I don’t’ and that goes into [the new song] ‘Outside (That’s PeriodT)’ which shows that I’m fully done.” she said.

Morgan Taylor is a multilayered person which makes her a multilayered artist. While her personality is introverted, her alter ego “Big Mo” is the exact opposite. This alter ego allows her to be creatively expressive through her music.

“Big Mo is sassy, adventurous and unapologetic. Morgan is more chill and introverted.” she said.

Like other R&B legends before her who also had alter egos, Morgan Taylor is also carving a path of being a multihyphenate. Her music already releases through her own label called Big Mo Music and she has plans to sign other St. Louis artists to it. She also acted in her first film this year, acted on stage in a musical theater production during her time at Berklee and has plans to enter the world of fashion too.

“I love singing and playing another character. It’s like playing dress up for me. I like playing someone else and being outside of my comfort zone.” she said.

With so much already accomplished this year, Morgan has no plans of stopping. She’s got plans for another single coming soon and maybe a holiday song too. Her listeners will have to stay tuned to find out what’s coming next from an R&B artist who has clearly studied the greats and is on path doing what she loves.
