Gospel singer and songwriter Lettie Law delivers her powerful new single, “Forward Ever Backward Never Jesus,” an upbeat, melodious record sure to bring hope to all listeners. Lettie Law’s music connects listeners with God through spiritual and emotional messages, and her newest single is a testament to her higher calling as a musician.

Lettie Law’s first memories of finding connection through music were of singing Gospel in the car with her mother and father. “We listened and sang along… from that time on, I was always singing in the car or in the house. When I played with other kids, we’d sing the Gospel songs we listened to with our parents.” Soon enough, Lettie Law began transforming from the young girl with the pretend microphone to a singer channeling a divine duty.

Lettie Law began writing her own music in the form of notebooks and scribbles, here and there. “Even when I grew up and got married, I went to my former room and found the case of books and notes. I was so happy,” shares the singer of rediscovering her old material years later. “My parents knew I wrote songs—my siblings, too—but I didn’t know what they meant at the time.”

For Lettie Law, writing music isn’t about crafting the perfect song—it’s a moment of connection with a greater power that offers her the gift of song. “I don’t write the songs by myself,” she explains. “These songs come like something divine, something given to me. If you ask me how I know which one is what, I don’t. The songs come to me. Some are more urgent than others, that’s how I know what to write.”

There was a moment during her career that she revised her music. She quickly learned through a chance encounter with a stranger that she ought to stick to the music the way it came, or there would be no more inspiration coming her way. A firm believer, Lettie Law saw this conversation as a warning and took heed. Since then, she has embraced her inspirations fully as they emerge without so much as a revision.

Her current single, “Forward Ever Backward Never Jesus,” came to her the day before she decided to publish it. “When I got to the recording studio, I described what I thought the song sounded like and they [the producers] started creating it,” tells Lettie Law of her process. From there, she helped shape the sound by directing her producers to match the vision that had come to her the night before.

“Every song I get has a very important message, and it’s mostly through praise and honor of God and worshipping God,” shares Lettie Law. “My songs are for human beings to get better.”

“Forward Ever Backward Never Jesus” is a strong example of a song created to uplift listeners through hard times. “This song is given to encourage people,” adds the singer. “When you look around to what is happening in our times—wars between countries, this and that—there has never been as many bad things happening to people. This song is of encouragement. No matter how bad it gets, there’s no way you cannot call upon God and he will see you through. Call him, and he will surely make it better.”

Lettie Law invites listeners to take a look beyond their enjoyment to understand the deeper meaning behind her music. “Most of my songs bring healing to the soul and human body,” she shares. “I have gotten calls from people that they healed from these songs. It’s something bigger than me.”
