“Empty” is not just a song — it is an emotional experience. Netherlands-born artist Brook Lynn pours every ounce of her soul into this heartfelt track, delivering a stunning performance that blends vulnerability with vocal mastery. With a melodic guitar gently weaving through the background and strong, simple percussion guiding the beat, “Empty” is a sonic roller coaster worth riding. Her buttery riffs and impressive range transform the song into something that lingers long after the last note fades.

For Brook Lynn, the recording of “Empty” marked a special milestone. “It was the first song we recorded together, actually,” she says. “So, I was also a little bit nervous because I had to show my voice for the first time in front of my producer and everything. But also, trying to get this feeling of what the song is about... that you’ve just been left with your hands so empty because of someone.”

That emotional depth is the core of the track. “Empty is about you just giving your energy and love to someone, and it’s not being returned back,” Brook Lynn explains. It is a feeling many can relate to — the exhaustion of giving everything to someone who cannot, or simply will not, meet you halfway. “I just tried to really tap into that feeling,” she adds, “and I think that really helped me express the song in the right way.”

Listening to the track takes Brook Lynn back to that space. “I think it just brings me back to that place where you were in. I just hope that people really feel like they’re understood and like less alone in it,” she says. “The audience that we’re really tapping into is more of the heartbreak… because, you know, today too, everything is such fast love. There’s no one getting to know anybody because you have so many options.”

It is that commentary on modern love that makes “Empty” resonate so strongly. Brook Lynn is unafraid to call out how social media and reality dating culture have changed connections. “It’s disappointing what social media and dating apps have done, we can’t even really connect with people,” she says. “Especially when you see what we glorify, like these dating shows, like Love Island. A lot of people share that... but that’s not really dating. That’s just basically messing around.”

Despite the heavy emotions behind it, recording “Empty” was also a challenge Brook Lynn embraced. “When we first started it, we did the acoustic version and it was in such a high key,” she recalls. “It was also challenging myself... but that’s what I loved about it because I like to challenge myself and to see what I can do. And it turned out to be really great, actually. I was really happy with it.”

Her bold vocals have always set her apart, a fact that surprised even those who knew her from her viral covers. “They were like really blown away by it,” Brook Lynn says. “They’ve only heard covers, and me showing an original song, they were like, ‘Wow, is this you?’”

Brook Lynn’s journey to this moment is anything but typical. “I was never really surrounded by [music] at home or like at school,” she says. Instead, she discovered her love for soulful voices through the internet. “I just looked on the internet, saw videos, and then I came across people like Aretha Franklin who had those big voices and such emotional depth. It just grabbed my attention.”

Though she once felt insecure about her nontraditional path, she has learned to embrace it. “That was like the thing that made me insecure at first,” she admits. “But then, when my manager told me that’s actually something that you should be proud of because it’s different, I just started to embrace it. It’s like a superpower.”

For her fans, Brook Lynn has a heartfelt message. “I just want to thank everyone for supporting me this whole time,” she says. “Like people that have been there from the beginning or even if you came later. This is just the beginning. I’m really excited to share way more music with everyone.”

With “Empty,” Brook Lynn delivers an anthem of heartbreak and healing, a space for listeners to feel seen, and a reminder that vulnerability can be powerful.
