With his brand new single, “Top Of The World,” Detroit rapper RB Kidd may have invented a new genre: good vibes hip hop.

The song is the first single on a new 15-track album, aptly titled Good Vibes Only. The single more than lives up to the album’s message: “Top Of The World” is an explosion of positivity. It feels like the musical equivalent of driving on a sunny day with the windows down, no traffic or problems in sight.

Produced by San Diego beatmaker Basshead, the track kicks off with dreamy synths and major key piano riffs. When the beat drops along with RB Kidd’s catchy chorus, you won’t be able to stop nodding your head — and smiling.

On top of the world
I feel like I’m out here killing it
Half of them gon’ love me
Other half gon’ learn to deal with it
Man I worked a lot
And earned the right to hit the dealership
So I take my time when I’m gon’ shine
Cause I be feeling it
On top of the world

The affirmative hook, “On top of the world,” is supported by verses about gratitude, the importance of staying in your lane and in the zone, and the power of a positive mindset. As Kidd says in the first verse, “Imagine if you didn’t worry / Probably wouldn’t see no gray.”

Just because the track is positive, that doesn’t mean it’s light. The upbeat and bouncy beat is supported by gritty basslines, and RB Kidd’s music is grounded in realness. He makes it clear in the song that he “earned the right” to feel this positivity.

Born Roderick Brooks, the rapper is from the west-side Detroit neighborhood of Schoolcraft. He took his stage name from his initials (RB) plus an acronym: Kicking In Doors Daily, or KIDD. From an early age, he learned the power of perseverance, working through struggles, and not taking no for an answer. Among his inspirations is Kobe Bryant, as noted in another album track, “Black Mamba.”

Musically, RB Kidd cut his teeth on the reality rap of artists like Ice Cube, Nas, and Rick Ross. Like those rappers, he looks to his own life for lyrical inspiration. The things he speaks about in his songs are based on his real experiences.

The music video for “Top Of The World” features RB Kidd literally and figuratively on top of the world: rapping from the roof of a skyscraper, and while soaring through the clouds on a private jet. Another music video, for “Black Mamba,” features RB Kidd rapping in front of the Kobe Bryant murals outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles. These high quality visuals match the strong production quality of the music, and will surely capture the attention of current and new fans and listeners.

“With this album, I just want people to tap in, feel the energy, and want to know more about RB Kidd,” he says. “The single ‘Top of the World’ is really a feel-good song. I wrote it to be motivational, not just for me but for the world.”

The song and album drop on November 7th. Listen to “Top Of The World” and Good Vibes Only everywhere you stream music. And let the good vibes flow.
