Artist Spotlight: Morgan Taylor

“Outside (That’s PeriodT)” is a part of Morgan Taylor’s story, a story she tells in a powerful, heartfelt R&B way. The stories come to her and she turns it into music. “I think that’s the best part of doing this, creating music, because it’s like a baby coming to life, and it’s my story coming to life.” Listen and become part of Morgan Taylor’s story. “Big Mo is the name of my fam, my community. It’s a space for people who love music but also have overcome and continue to overcome. Everyone is welcomed, respected and seen. My fans are the best!”

This Q&A gives fans a rare glimpse into the mind of one of music’s most respected voices.

FreshMusicWorld: How do your personal experiences shape your music?

Morgan Taylor:
My personal life, girl talk with my friends, and things going on in the world really inspire my creativity! When I find a beat, I mean that perfect beat, that’s when things start flowing. I pull my ideas from journal entries. I want the lyrics to feel confessional. As if you are looking over my shoulder at what I’ve written, what I feel, and where I’m coming from.

FreshMusicWorld: Who was your first major musical mentor, and what did you learn from them?

Morgan Taylor:
I would say the First Lady at my old church, Minister Kathy Horry. She taught me so much in the very beginning of my musical journey — from the basics of piano to learning how to control and understand my voice. She was also right there with me in the studio when I recorded my first EP, Yes, Jesus Loves Me. Her guidance shaped the foundation of who I am as an artist today.

FreshMusicWorld: What’s the story behind your favorite song you’ve written?

Morgan Taylor:
My favorite song is “Outside (That’s Periodt)”. It was inspired by a guy I used to talk to that I honestly didn’t even like. Writing it made me realize I never want to settle for less ever again.

FreshMusicWorld: What legacy do you hope to leave with your music?

Morgan Taylor:
I want to be a light for women and young, hungry artists. My goal is to inspire empowerment, confidence, and freedom — especially for women who deserve to feel powerful and limitless.

FreshMusicWorld: What’s the most significant change you’ve seen in yourself since starting your music career?

Morgan Taylor:
I’m learning to build confidence from within while also figuring out the kind of artist I want to be and how I want to show up in the world.

FreshMusicWorld: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Morgan Taylor:
Acting is something I truly love. I’m always watching movies so I can learn as much as I can and continue growing as an actor.

FreshMusicWorld: How do you stay motivated and inspired in your daily life?

Morgan Taylor:
Praying and listening to gospel music keeps me grounded!

FreshMusicWorld: What’s a personal achievement outside of music that you’re particularly proud of?

Morgan Taylor:
Graduating from college was one of my biggest accomplishments. There were so many moments when I doubted myself, but I kept pushing. I’m really proud that I trusted myself and made it to the finish line.

FreshMusicWorld: What’s one piece of advice you wish you could give your younger self?

Morgan Taylor:
Never change who you are — your uniqueness is your power. Don’t let anyone dim the light you carry.

FreshMusicWorld: How do you maintain a sense of authenticity in your work and personal life?

Morgan Taylor:
With my music, I always want my audience to feel something. My goal is to be relatable by being vulnerable, telling my story, and being my authentic self. I especially want to speak to women when it comes to self-love, healing, and growth.
