SAMM! likes to write songs that reflect her feelings, and she fell in love with the beat that became “In My Feelings.” It was a vibe for her.

“In My Feelings” is the debut single for the new artist from Australia.

“It was a lot of fun,” said SAMM! (pronounced Sammi).

“I got to tap into that side where it’s a little bit less about heartbreak and more about playfulness, the desire and the want of something or someone.”

I know you feel it too
You got me in my feelings
I want you
Oh oh oh
All I want is you
All I want is you

The song, alt-pop with a mellow R&B feel, was created while she was completing work on an upcoming EP.

“I am quite an emotional writer,” she said. “I write from experience. I write in depth about self-reflection, love, loss etc.”

She was working on her EP of five songs that are about her deepest self, attached to her emotions. Normally, she writes her songs and is heavily involved in the production and likes helping with mixing.

During this time, she was spontaneously given the beats for what now is “In My Feelings.”

“When I wrote it, I recorded it the next day, at NRG recording studios in LA. That’s a song that I thought, ‘Hey, I want to show this is part of me.’”

It may not be the deepest part of her emotional makeup, but she has a lot of good feelings about it. Shortly after recording “In My Feelings,” she flew from Australia to Colombia to record the music video for the song.

“The music video really paints the picture of what I’m singing. ‘I want you but I’m not gonna talk to you, you can come talk to me type of vibe.’ Playful.”

She said about her debut song and debut music video, “I’m really proud.”

“In My Feelings” will be a stand-alone debut. The EP begins with her next release, coming soon, called “Don’t Save Me.” It will be one of five.

She describes her introduction as an artist with the metaphor of a rose bud.

“I like to use the rose-before-it-has-bloomed reference. From the outside, it’s still beautiful and you know what it’s capable of becoming. The more it opens up, the better it becomes. And, hey, not everyone may love roses but there’s others who do.”

“Don’t Save Me,” as the title says, is a song about realization, self worth, and going for love on your own terms.

“I don’t need you to save me. I can save myself.”

She has just finished making the artwork for it, a postapocalyptic visual of her, surrounded by flames, reaching for a heart.

“I am really excited because this song in particular I’ve finessed with the songwriting a few times, so I’m really happy with the version I’ve chosen.”

She began writing the lyrics and helped work on the production.

“And I was like, ‘Okay, this is what I want it to feel like. This is what I want it to sound like.”

She got a song that she feels people can relate to.

“It’s a fun song. It’s got a really cool R&B, pop, disco undertone. If you want to listen to the beat, you’ll have fun. If you like lyrics, you’ll also enjoy it.”

The other four, in no particular order are “Alice,” “Too Deep,” “Blame It” and “Lonesome Town.” They tell a story from the first song to the last.

That kind of storytelling, out of the ordinary, unexpected, unpredictable at times, is a reflection of what she calls her “experimental production,” which she describes as “full of surprises.”

“Alice,” for instance, is a self-reflective song, a kind of “mind trip, fighting with your inner thoughts”

“All my songs aren’t just party songs. They’re more about love, loss, self-reflection, strength. It’s all stuff that I feel like I embody and if somebody can share and can relate to it, feel a little less alone, that’s my goal on how I connect to the world.”
