CR Srikanth is an Indian composer, producer, music innovator and founder of VS (Very Smooth) Pop Records LLP and the founder and creator of the VS PopTM Brand. This musical project combines a plethora of experience he has in the music world. The latest single “So Let’s Dance (VS POPTM)” leans more into the traditional pop and dance sound on the surface but has a unique composition process.

The track “So Let’s Dance (VS POPTM)” stands out from many other songs because its composition began with sheet music. CR studied film and television scoring at the Berklee College of Music and his classical compositions are archived on the International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP). To this day, he still titles his music by opus numbers in his own notations and records but releases them with standard and accessible song titles.

CR has been able to repurpose many of his orchestral compositions and use them for the VS PopTM Music, which releases through the VS PopTM Brand. By experimenting with various motifs from those compositions, he’s able to turn them into suitable pop tracks.

“Once I finish the composing, I send the track to my songwriter and we discuss and build the lyrics based on the mood of the song we’re making…We tried to avoid the standard chord patterns for pop music and almost everything actually comes from flute music…The process takes about three months.” he said.

CR did his own social experiment to gauge people’s responses to “So Let’s Dance (VS POPTM).” He incorporated the song into a playlist with other songs from popular pop stars and played it at various events. People said the song flowed well with the other songs in the playlist and responded to it positively. Since “So Let’s Dance (VS POPTM)” also recently charted on Spotify Local Pulse (San JoseA), CR is confident more and more people are enjoying it.

The VS PopTM Brand is how CR Srikanth releases all his music. He prides his music on being genreless but in technical terms it blends “orchestral and electronic elements with emotionally driven melodic structures.” His background also includes Indian classical traditions (Carnatic and Hindustani) which showcase the importance of culture within his music. These Indian classical motifs are combined with western harmonic structures. He has trademarked his unique fusion style as the VS PopTM Sound.

One thing that keeps CR Srikanth going is his persistent commitment to his music. By not giving up, he’s been able to do exactly what people said he shouldn’t do. They told him that combining the electronic and orchestral music wouldn’t work but now it’s the sound that VS PopTM is built on.

“Never give up is the mantra I follow. If you stop thinking, that’s the end of the road. If think mode is on, you keep going…I have no pressure from labels to rush my music. I can do what I want creatively on my own time.” he said.

“So Let’s Dance (VS POPTM)” from CR Srikanth’s VS PopTM music project is available on streaming services now.
