Features : AUTUMN shares pivotal moments from her heart with debut EP Butterflies

AUTUMN is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer whose music serves as a time capsule for moments of her life. Her debut EP Butterflies coincides with pivotal memories she experienced outside the music and yet, the music is still a reflection of them. The project captures several stages of love with “Fragile Heart” being a standout track from it.

Opening track "fragile heart” is an indie pop song about heartbreak but it can be applied to romantic, platonic or familial relationships. AUTUMN’s goal was to craft something that could be related to all types of relationships at any stage of someone’s life.

“When you experience disappointment, you experience a small heartbreak. People may not live up to the expectations you set for them. These can be the people you’re closest with in life.” she said.

The indie pop track starts the journey of love on the EP with AUTUMN discussing how she is picking up the pieces of her heart and hoping the next person she meets doesn't do any more damage to it. At the same time, since her heart has been through so much, it also becomes stronger and is able to withstand more and more life experiences. As the project progresses, she finds love and reflects on how happy it has made her. Butterflies is a four track EP that discusses the stages of love and AUTUMN wrote them with the intention of capturing the feelings she was going through in real time. Songwriting has always been therapeutic for her and she likes to write about her experiences as they happen.

The track “daydream” is a direct example of this as it discusses AUTUMN’s husband, specifically the joy and happiness she felt as they moved in together. While the technical aspects of that process were stressful at times, she wanted to share how excited about the future she was and how that milestone in her life was pivotal in the best possible way.

“When life happens to other people they go to sporting events, watch TV or TikToks and things like that. I go to the studio.” she said.

Music is embedded in AUTUMN’s blood since her older brother and sister both play music. AUTUMN started learning guitar at age 11 and was gifted one by her sister at age 12. Since then she has learned to play the piano, ukulele and flute with plans to learn the harmonica. With such a wide ranging skillset, AUTUMN has also stepped into the producer role for her music so she can craft the sounds she wants exactly as she envisions them.

“It’s all exciting for me. As soon as I see an instrument I’m attracted to it and want to learn it. I want to take in as much knowledge as I can about music.” she said.

With the release of AUTUMN’s EP Butterflies lining up with other important moments in her life, she is taking in a lot at once. However, she’s still excited that the EP is out and looking forward to opportunities to perform her music live in the very near future. These songs mean so much to her and are a reflection of her commitment to appreciating and being present in all of life’s moments.
