ATLANTA, GA – Many singer/songwriters strive to release as much music as they can in hopes that one song goes big, attracts the critics’ attention, and propels them to stardom. Then there are actual musicians like Ep!K who focus on quality, not quantity.

“The fact that I am a black male that not only produces and masters all my music but plays all the instruments, composes actual sheet music, writes, and raps, and still has my music display the type of quality and introspection it has makes me unique,” said Ep!K.

The uniqueness is more than just a catchy phrase evident with his latest EP, “The Message That Never Got Sent.” Blending alternative R&B with spoken word, Ep!K creates a musical masterpiece that entertains and allows fans to dive deep into their subconscious.

Pursuing a degree in psychology ensures each song has a bit of introspection in the lyrics. This makes the entire creative process form a conversation between Ep!K and listeners. For example, the EP’s title alone implies a situation that is unresolved but still prominent within one’s life and being addressed subsequently.

This type of reflective thought process blends into his style of producing music. Using veteran rapper Loaded Lux as inspiration, Ep!K’s music includes complicated rhyme schemes and hooks with metaphorical analogies. However, this EP mainly focuses on Ep!K’s vocals rather than his lyricism. Ep!K states, “I usually have a lot of different parts that are rhyming within a whole verse that I use to illustrate whatever needs to be illustrated. However, this EP focuses on vulnerability, and I’m not afraid to tell anyone within my songs, ‘Hey, I’m hurt. Why would you do this to me?’ Also, I don’t just look at my perspective, but theirs, too.”

Ep!K also uses his music to interact with his vocals. This collaboration with lyrics and music provides a telltale sign of Ep!K’s musicality. Since he creates his instrumentation, he can adjust the tonality of his instrumentals for his voice and phrasing.

“The Message That Never Got Sent” is an entire collection of songs that tell a story. From the first track “You Are Beautiful” – a spoken word single that describes what he sees in terms of face value – to the revelation of “The Message That Never Got Sent,” the EP offers a conclusion that though something is beautiful, it doesn’t mean you should have it.

The two singles getting high praise from fans and critics are “Satisfied” and “Blame Me.” Each song represents Ep!K’s artistry and talent that extends beyond his 20 years of age.

“Satisfied” is a fast-paced hip-hop song with a commercial flair that draws fans with a contagious hook and repeating melody. The track focuses on the protagonist questioning why they cannot find a lasting relationship as they notice themselves giving more than receiving from their partner. Diving deeper into their subconscious, the protagonist examines his choices and what they represent for themself.

Showcasing his alternative R&B vibes, “Blame Me” exemplifies how the protagonist’s point of view can vary wildly from their lover’s and how those involved can still be hurt. The song acknowledges how these conflicting viewpoints can make a tumultuous situation.

“Much like looking at a situation from another angle,” he said, “If you do not do something, your partner could feel like they’re being neglected, but if you do too much, they can feel overwhelmed. It is all about communication, but some people do not know how to do that effectively.”

This type of personal introspection lies at the foundation of Ep!K’s music. Taking inspiration from some of music’s most prominent influencers, such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, and Eminem, Ep!K creates a new brand of music that bleeds with quality, insight, and addictive vibes.
