MONTREAL - While some hip-hop artists sell out to jump on the latest mainstream trend, Avalanche the Architect remains committed to his battle-rap style. Avalanche fearlessly unleashes a raw vocal onslaught of complex metaphors and similes accompanied by clever wordplay and a raspy deep sharp vocal tone to hammer home his message - and fans love it.

Known for his hardcore lyrics, Avalanche is confident in his artistry. “A lot of musicians these days go on social media and carry out gimmicks and antics to gain a fanbase. Then they put out a song laden with auto-tune, and it sounds more like an R&B track than hip-hop.”

With an expanding discography, Avalanche the Architect does not fall to these gimmicks. He is an old-school rapper similar to the great rappers from the 1990s like Canibus, Vinnie Paz, Big Pun, Redman, and the energy of a Waka Flocka Flame. Avalanche’s music focuses on aggressive wordplay packed full of energy. “I focus on two things - the energy you feel and the similes and metaphors in my lyrics,” he said.

Representative of his hard bass, crispy kicks, and snapping snare drum style, “My Waistband Looks Like A Gun Shop” is Avalanche’s latest single. With a lengthy title, Avalanche says, the title explains the song’s message, and it is old-school 90s-type rap mixed with a modern-day swagger that accompanies all his tracks.

“My Waistband Looks Like A Gun Shop” is the perfect song to play at the gym to get pumped up for a workout or simply life. A great example of Avalanche’s supreme abilities is his wordplay in his line, “No flat basketball, I pump rock.” ‘Rock’ in the streets means crack and is also a term basketball player uses for the ball, while ‘pump’ in the streets means to sell when its literal definition is to inflate. Avalanche uses this wordplay to say he is not talking about a flat basketball when he says, “pumps rock,” meaning he sells crack.

Another example is “I’ve got shooters, no jump shot.” In these lyrics, he refers to a ‘shooter’ as a basketball shooting guard versus a ‘shooter’ who is a gunman in the streets. This “My Waistband Looks Like a Gun Shop” line infers Avalanche has ‘shooters,’ but he is not talking about the type that takes jump shots during a basketball game. These aggressive lyrics create a smart street message and a music video that features Avalanche grinding out raps.

According to Avalanche, rapping about life in general and the streets makes him unique. “My music is authentic. It isn’t always happy and bubble gum music. People are not talking about happy stuff ‘cuz that is not what people talk about,” he said. “The news is the most popular thing, and it sells crime and stories about it. My fans want to hear about the streets. They don’t want to live on the streets, but they want to hear about it.”

Always giving the fans what they want, Avalanche, a former MMA fighter, punches out lyrics like a champ. “The way you see my music is the way you’ll see me in real life. I think a lot about my lyrics before writing them,” he said. “If you want to hear authentic rap music that is not like everything else you heard, listen to me.”
