The kinda-sorta-not-really follow-up to 2019’s MAGDALENE, FKA twigs has dropped her her new mixtape CAPRISONGS.
“I think when I was in lockdown after the initial, I mean the beginning of lockdown, I personally found quite traumatic because it really made me stop. I just really wanted to make music that my friends would listen to and that I could connect with people over,” twigs said to Zane Lowe during a recent interview. “I guess that’s where the idea came from that I just wanted to make music to get ready to. I think I was craving going out and going dancing. I always like cringe a little bit when I think of like art as therapy. I don’t know why. Maybe I need to look at that, but yeah, I don’t know. I think I just wanted to make work that was for my friends and I recorded all of my friends talking and whenever people were saying interesting things, when we were allowed to be together in lockdown, I would record these little conversations to reflect on later, with them knowing obviously, to reflect on later and they ended up weaving itself into the music and into the story. I just figured I’ve got so many inspirational, amazing people around me that if anyone is ever feeling lonely, they can just borrow my friends and borrow my little community and hopefully listen to it.”
With features from the likes of The Weeknd, Jorja Smith, Rema and others, CAPRISONGS can be heard below.
