Although it’s been three years since he’s released an album, JID has kept fans fed with material. Whether it’s standout appearances on Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers III and the Spilligion album with his Spillage Village crew, or jumping on records with the likes of Conway the Machine and Ludacris (“Scatter Brain”), Masego and Big Boi (“Garden Party”), and Kaytranada, the Atlanta emcee continues to deliver top notch performances – leaving fans itching even more for the release of his anticipated third album, The Forever Story.
Now, with the album on the near horizon, JID – who just revealed he’ll be hitting the Coachella stage this year (lineups below) – has seemingly kick started the campaign with a brand new song called “Surround Sound” featuring 21 Savage and Baby Tate.
“Growing up in a big family, it was never quiet around the house at all,” JID says. “I Always found a way to silence the chaos around me and channel some type of calm in the midst of whatever was going on. From music blasting out of Squi’s stankin Lincoln with them two 10’s in the back blowing out the speakers, or even just going outside in the neighborhood hearing gun shots, or kids playing and chasing the ice cream truck. All these sounds helped me keep my awareness to make decisions and sh*t. Even til this day I can’t sleep without the TV on… everything surround sound.”
Produced by DJ Scheme and Cristo, “Surround Sound” is an absolute banger that flips Mos Def’s “Ms. Fat Booty” beautifully. Shouts to the Queen, Aretha Franklin! Press play below.
