LOS ANGELES - With a discography dating back to 2006, Chip Tha Ripper, aka King Chip, is a veteran storyteller and entertainer. With each release setting the hip hop bar higher, his latest project, “Bonfire,” is his first release since 2016.

A bonfire is a portal for freedom from our problems and the bad things that hold on to.”

Using a bonfire as a symbol of lousy mojo being released and burned away, Chip’s lyrics are inspired by Negro American Indians who lived in pre-colonial times, that Chip recently learned are his ancestors.

While many artists are releasing concept albums, Chip said, “‘Bonfire’ is an environment and not necessarily a storyline. It’s an environment that meshes well with each song and its collective sound, but the next album won’t sound like this.”

The first single off the album to connect with listeners is “Don’t You See I’m On the Phone?!” Displaying his lyrical mastery, Chip takes a commonly heard phrase and converts it into a rap song containing an expression many youngsters listen to their parents saying.

“Bonfire” is packed with similar cultural phrases of hip hop that have been untapped in songs - until now. Chip uses sayings and terms that relate to the average person, demonstrating Chip’s relatability to his fans worldwide.

In addition to touring globally with acts like Kid Cudi, headlining two Coachella’s, creating a strain of cannabis named “Bonfire,” and developing his soon-to-be-released podcast, “The Real American Podcast,” Chip went viral in 2007. For more than 15 years, a freestyle from Chip’s visit to Street Starz TV Radio resurfaced and became a TikTok sensation. The song “Interior Crocodile Alligator” has over 215 million posts views and over 1 billion views.

Looking ahead to the future and “Bonfire’s” success as its singles continue to rack up streams, Chip said, “The secret to being a rapper for a long time is that when you’re a rapper, you need to remain valid in conversations.”
