IAO Carla offers an experience of within, aiming to help people unleash their deep essence and stillness.
Born in Morocco with Jewish, Egyptian and Greek heritage, the artist’s blend of Indie, dream pop, tribal and techno music – is meant to help listeners still their heart and feel the aliveness in their body.
“I’ve always been very attracted to ancient teachings, ancient temples and to everything ancient. I knew deep down something was very off with the way we experience and see ‘reality.’ she says “ I started a spiritual development quite a long time ago during a very low period in my life, and there started my seeking journey for truth. That’s when I realized how much can happen when one goes within. You’ll see that my music reflects my journey and more, my mission is to guide people to their true self, to authenticity.”
IAO Carla’s upcoming song “Sun Yesod” explores ancient mysticism and the 10 points of entry in the human body, coupled with a very heart and body filling sound. It’s slated for release May 8th with an accompanying music video.
She shares ideas on the relationship between our inner functioning and the orchestration of the Universe.
“I am referring to the fact that maybe the way the Universe orchestrates out of us isn’t that different from what is happening within,” she says. “Very old teachings said those points of entry correlate to different planets, and the point of entry that is called Yesod, in Jewish mysticism basically means that our Sun is like our foundation… In the video, I share through what words can’t describe very powerful ways of visualizing a certain type of light, of energy that could flow ‘in’ and ‘out’ of us. And truly, these types of visualization completely enhanced my experience of within. Hopefully this helps all viewers tap deeper into their intuition and start connecting with their deep selves!”
She is releasing another song called “Dark Melody” on July 6, which she describes as a “very succulent, harmoniously chaotic poetic song.”
“Oulalah… Dark Melody is simply out of this world. My best friend, Ghita writes about what words can’t touch, Dark Melody. The lyrics are open to interpretation, what I can say is that it’s about the underlying melody of life,” she says. “This unknown yet new feeling. Feels wrong, but extremely pleasant.”
The messages IAO Carla delivers in those songs, and her previous releases, is all part of her intention to offer people an experience of within.
She wants people to dance with their shadows and transform them into light.
“I intend to have people realize that the dark is actually completely light and with no light no darkness can be,” she says. “I produce a very sweet and seductive sound at the same time sometimes as really dancing chaotic yet calming and “trippy” beats.”
Now based in Los Angeles, IAO Carla previously lived in a small village in the middle of a forest in Scotland for 5 years. She’s always been obsessed with sounds, even as simple as those produced by using her hands and feet on the floor. She always enjoyed finding the hidden music in sound, even when one would hear noise she would experience a musical story.
She’s played the piano and guitar for 10 years but has only been making music formally for the last year, releasing her first tracks three months ago.
But in that short time her songs are already resonating with thousands; “Come and Meet Me” has been played more than 80,000 times.
“All the feedback I’ve received is that it’s very different and it’s very emotional,” she says. “I am very expressive on that track but it’s very simple with piano and my voice only. It gets a lot of engagement with all ages, too. There are 70-year-old people listening to it and recognizing there is something that touches them deeply in my sound and the word they say is that it’s very stilling.”
IAO Carla has completed a total of seven singles that will be released this year, and she’ll drop her first album in September.
Alongside with music, she co-founded and teaches at theyourtimemethod.com and serves as a motivational strategist.
“What is important for me is to grow a community that is going to be able to heal through what I can get them to see in themselves,” she says.
