Washington D.C.-based rapper Y.N.G. Mac Jay delivers a fresh single, “Sad Faces,” to fans across the globe. Y.N.G. Mac Jay is a natural born leader and he’s not afraid to share it with the world. “That’s me—that’s my motto,” says the artist. “I’m here to lead. It’s how I see myself as an artist and as a human being.”

His recent single, “Sad Faces,” came to him after an emotional move to Los Angeles on the tail-end of a breakup. “I moved to LA with nothing,” explains Y.N.G. Mac Jay. “I was bouncing from hotel to hotel for a minute. One night, I got a feeling—a sad, hurt, torn feeling like I was alone. So I started writing to this song. Freestyling it. Playing around with it a bit.” And so, “Sad Faces” was born.

“I told myself no more sad face. Being stressed out and doubts—no more of that,” shares Y.N.G. Mac Jay. His single is dedicated to helping people understand that sad faces will turn into happiness eventually. “It’s a lead up to my next single, ‘Smile,’” shares the artist.

Y.N.G. Mac Jay’s journey into music began around age 6. After hours spent listening to his mother—a rapper and singer—practice and perform, the young Y.N.G. Mac Jay would rap to himself. It wasn’t until age 15 that he started creating his own full length singles.

“Sad Faces” is “very conscious rapping” at its finest. The artist focuses on storytelling to deliver his message from the heart. “I see the song as motivational, dedicated, and ambitious,” shares Y.N.G. Mac Jay. Like much of his music, the song came to him through freestyle. “Usually I freestyle in my head and then put it down on paper,” he shares.

With his musical career steadily taking off, Y.N.G. Mac Jay looks back on his journey thus far. “Not many people can go from DC to LA broke, off of pure faith. I didn’t have fear when I was out there. I wasn’t scared—I took a risk. I knew that whatever happens, happens, and if I have faith in God, everything will be okay.”

In the next year, Y.N.G. Mac Jay is excited to see his music reach more fans, both through streaming and tours. “I’m here for all my fans,” shares the artist. “I want them to know they should always stay motivated and never give up. Keep pushing.”
