LOS ANGELES, CA - An allstar athlete turned musician, entrepreneur and father, Player Vibez is a creative with a rare kind of drive and ambition. Whether it is through his music or his actions, this artist is always looking to inspire those around him with his dedication and hard work. It is for this reason that he has taken to the recording studio to release not one but two new projects to tell his story and help others to follow a similar path to his own.
Previously an athlete at a collegiate level, Player Vibez was a member of the University of Southern California football team. Redshirted his Freshman year due to an injury, he went on to be the second ever freshman running back to start a season opener. His career continued, but was unfortunately clouded by several injuries, leaving his athletic career cut short. He was still undrafted to the Seattle Seahawks.
The first of Player’s two recent releases is an EP titled Grounded. This project tells the story of who Player is through his experiences as an athlete and just in life. “This EP is for everyone who is pursuing big goals and pushing through obstacles that are out of their control.”
Featured on the Grounded EP is Player’s Track “God Blessed My Tongue”, a song that highlights his transition from world class athlete to musician. Having achieved the title of number one hurdler in the world on his way out of high school and being a US Army All American Running Back, he was already following through on a promising athletic career when injury changed the course of his life towards music.
Grounded is followed by the Student Athlete Mixtape, a project meant to inspire young athletes and other goal oriented individuals to pursue their goals and continue to stay dedicated and humble throughout their growth. This theme can be traced through the entire album as Player tells the story of his own trials and tribulations.
The Student Athlete Mixtape features a range of incredible tracks, including one of Player’s own favorites, “Run It Up”. This song focuses on prevailing over the people who doubted you in the beginning. “It’s about the people who bet against you,” said Player. “In the end they’re the ones who picked the wrong team.”
All of the work that Player has put into his recent releases truly showcase his ability as a lyricist and his range as a musician over all. In these projects, he shares important and personal pieces of himself, all in the name of inspiring the people who look to follow in his footsteps as an athlete or in anything else they choose to d.
The name Player Vibez, though often associated with the idea of playing women, is not what you might think it is. “It's about having the attributes of a professional athlete. It’s about showing up and putting all your effort into something. You have to be accountable,” he explained.
“I want to build better people with my music,” said Player. “I want to build a world full of better human beings, a place I can be proud to have my daughter grow up in.” Player Vibez, who grew up influenced by the people and music he was surrounded by, hopes to take matters into his own hands and be that influence that inspires people to do better and work harder in their own lives.
Following the release of both Grounded and The Student Athlete Mixtape, Player is excited to continue to expand his brand and put more music out into the world. His next project will feature more of a Gospel style and focus more on his life and spirituality. He hopes to open his music up to people outside of the Hip Hop genre as he continues to expand his connections to those around him.
