East Coast artist Lauren G started playing classical violin at the age of three – but she realized at a young age that R&B music was her real passion.
Now four years after the release of her debut EP, Lauren G continues to prove herself in the genre. She attracted more attention in 2021 with the ATL Vibez EP and popular singles like “I Need Love” and “Out of My Life” and has already released a dozen singles this year.
Her latest project is the official music video for “I Need Love,” which garnered thousands of views in a matter of days and features Atlanta producer Dillio.
“I think it’s one of my best – if not my best song – that I’ve ever done,” she says. “I came up with the hook in maybe two minutes and I’m not talking to anybody in particular but when Dillio came in with his verse it was really interesting because it was like he was talking to me. I like how he changed it up like that.”
“Yeah I always chase ‘em,” she sings in the song. “It’s no wonder why my heart keep on breaking.”
But she declares she’s changing up her ways and better days are ahead instead of being played.
“You’re the one I’m feeling,” Dillio answers on his verse. “Let me be the one you’re loving.”
The track was recorded and produced by Dillio at his Atlanta studio. The two have worked together in the past but this is the first song Dillio has produced for her. She usually engineers and records herself.
“I Need Love” is the second official music video she’s released this year. The video for “Main Focus” has received nearly 80,000 plays on YouTube in just a few months.
Lauren G plans to release at least one more single, and another music video, before the end of the year. Most of the dozen songs she’s already put out in 2022 will end up on an upcoming album set for release early next year.
The new music includes “One Track Minded,” a woman empowerment song.
“It’s saying, you know, that men are one-track minded but women handle all vices,” she says.
There’s also “Override” and “Soulmate.” The former is about emotions taking over and not being able to control them – a familiar situation for most. And the latter samples the beat from Chris Brown’s “Say Goodbye” while Lauren G reflects on the guy she can’t let go of.
“My new music is definitely somewhat different in terms of my melodies and the way I switch up words and the topics I’ve been covering,” she says.
Residing in New Haven, Connecticut, Lauren G has performed live hundreds of times and has written and co-produced five albums. After the early focus on violin, she didn’t turn attention to her voice until high school and later studied at Hartt, Mannes and Berklee College of Music.
She’s worked with award-winning artists like Soul for Real and producers like Edwin Ramos.
