CAMPINAS, Brazil – This fall, Brazilian electronic dance artist Illusionize will be releasing two singles titled “Go Low” and “The Groov” from his upcoming 2023 DJ set. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Illusionize has been hard at work on an audiovisual project which will become the basis of this independent set. These two singles preview what Illusionize has in store for the upcoming year.

He says, “I am in this period of musical restructuring, which is a process that has been lasting for quite a while. My goals are to always be adding something new, whether or not that something has been done before. It’s all really exciting.”

After years of development, Illusionize has grown a sizeable fanbase with several thousands of dedicated fans. His Spotify has over 750 thousand monthly listeners and his YouTube has nearly 500 thousand subscribers. His most popular singles have nearly 20 million streams each, allowing for him to play the largest festivals in Brazil, and pioneer the electronic genre in the country.

As can be seen in the documentary Born to Bass, Pedro Mendes overcame his poorer beginnings to acquire the resources necessary to make electronic music. He developed from being an everyday LAN café worker in Goiâna, Brazil into the artist Illusionize by using the computers of that LAN café to make his first songs. The song Bass” with Chemical Surf brought him into the spotlight, allowing him to play some of the largest festivals across Brazil. After sustaining that rise, Illusionize has amassed millions of listeners who follow his projects online and line-up to see his sold out shows.

Currently, Illusionize is releasing many projects made in the midst of the pandemic. Two previous songs which have been released recently are “Moogzera” and his remix of partywithray and ZHU’s “Lil Mama”. He has also recently released an audiovisual project on YouTube which is his DJ set on a train ride from Curitiba to Morretes through the beautiful Serra do Mar mountains in Paraná. Illusionize’s performance has been featured in many articles in outlets like DJMag and playbpm, and the train ride itself is described by The Wall Street Journal to be one of the top 10 best in the world.

His upcoming singles are llusionize, Visage Feat. 2Strange – “Go Low” and Illusionize, Dual Channels – “The Groov”. Both singles preview his upcoming 2023 DJ set.

“Go Low” is a song made with Fabio, the original other member of Illusionize. Pedro says, “It was a track from the middle of the pandemic. I was on vacation at the time, and I was going back and forth many places like between my mother’s house and my mother-in-law’s house, trying to make something light.” He continues, “It was a creative time, where many other songs were made like ‘Pike’. After a whole year, I can finally release this one.”

“The Groov” is a song that Pedro describes as “a modern song with a very clear message”. His friend Dalton brought him the lyrics to translate. After he did, he said “he was amused by them, they made sense to him.” “It is very important that a lyric brings something that inspires you or touches you somehow. It’s a song that you can listen to from anywhere – in the car, while walking,” Pedro says. “The second half is heavy. The beats are strong, it’s better if you are already dancing in that moment.”

“Go Low” will be released on October 21 and “The Groov” will be released in late November. Both tracks will have accompanying music videos, with the music video for “The Groov” being inspired by the cover art for the single.

Illusionize looks forward to showing the world what he has in store for 2023, to inspire others as they do for him. He says, “Today, it is clear to me that there are many people following my work. They are inspired by me somehow. … If you find obstacles along your way – difficulties, problems. You can overcome those obstacles; you can move on. Your dreams can come true. But it’s only up to you.”
