Connecticut-based rapper Rightchess—also known as Randie Pirro—brings us to a happy, emotional place with his recent single, “Crushing and Texting.”
Rightchess’ fresh track is about developing feelings for someone and trying to woo her. “My song is about crushing on a girl and her not being ready to be in a serious thing,” elaborates the artist. “But I’m trying to get her out of that element and see my way/perspective.” The single is a soulful, R&B song that many can relate to.
“I want to uplift listeners and remind them of the good parts of meeting someone new and connecting with them. It’s a happy, uplifting song that speaks to the first butterflies when you meet someone—the sparks and excitement,” shares Rightchess.
“Crushing and Texting” began with a beat that caught his ear right away. “I heard the beat and started writing and thinking about someone I was crushing on. Thinking about how we’re building connection and how that felt,” shares Rightchess of the inspiration behind his latest hit.
When he thinks about the things that inspire him to write, Rightchess takes note of his neighborhood of Stratford, Connecticut. “I feel like Stratford is a melting pot—different people, different backgrounds. Not everything is black or white. It’s cultured and offers a broad perspective on things. I just want to give listeners a genuine take on my life.”
“I got started with music from my brother who was a rapper,” tells Rightchess of his early connection to music. “We used to have rap battles in the neighborhood. I’d give remix songs to people and do little remixes in school and release them on Myspace.” After a hiatus, Rightchess has returned to music and is now focused on a wider audience.
As an up-and-coming artist, Rightchess can look back with gratitude at how far he’s come. “I’m proud of releasing my EP last year. It was my first time doing that.” Since then, he has dropped “Crushing and Texting” and is working on future releases. Along with performances, Rightchess is slated to drop a project at the end of the year with a few singles along the way.
