Hix, an Up-and-coming artist, writer, and producer, is set to drop his latest project, the 9-track work dubbed “GODSPEED.” The project is designed to merge the inspirational feeling of gospel music with the melodic trap sound of recent years, showcasing a style unique to Hix.
“I don’t want to label it an album or a mix-tape,” shares Hix. “It’s a different approach than I usually do.” Produced largely by Hix’s brother, 5AM Kush, “GODSPEED” is a family affair. “Most of the time I’m just punching in on the beats. We mixed in samples into the production and played with creative melodies and lines. It’s not your typical project. It’s a jambalaya.”
The Portsmouth, Virginia native came from humble beginnings. While he mostly searched for inspiration in his surroundings, his biggest inspiration was actually his father’s music. As he grew, the young Hix kept dreaming of pursuing music until the time finally came to begin his musical career. Hix invested in his own studio equipment and devoted his time to perfecting his craft. Through focus and determination, Hix developed his skills in production, writing, and engineering in order to create his own work. “GODSPEED” marks the finish line, where he showcases all he has practiced and mastered to create this full project.
Over the years, Hix has been inspired by artists during specific periods of their careers including Lil Wayne (2008-2011), Drake (2010-2015), and Kanye West (for production), as well as soulful inspirations such as Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, and Michael Jackson. His style evokes the soulfulness of older music with the lyricism of 90s hip hop. “I’m just a fan of music—all types of music,” shares the artist.
The artist’s main goal is to use music as a means to inspire others. “I want to inspire people to keep going when it’s ugly,” shares Hix. “I want to help people, to inspire what they’re trying to do.” While he continues to take on the scene as an independent artist, Hix also hopes to positively influence his listeners across the globe. “I want listeners to know that I’m pure. Whether it’s right or wrong, I’m just a pure human,” adds the artist.
As they wait for the release date to be announced, fans can anticipate listening to “GODSPEED” sometime this spring.
