MIAMI – After years on the business side of the music industry, Moolah Rich is stepping to the other side of the mic to create solid gold beats of his own.
So far he’s had a blast on collaborative projects with artists signed with Money Game Music – his independent music label he established ten years ago – but this summer, this self-made success story was ready for “Pancakes.”
“Who doesn’t like pancakes?” Moolah Rich said. “It’s an exciting record with comedy energy. Each coast has a different sound, and I tried to tap into each one. It’s a feel-good record and we knocked it out in a short amount of time. I can see people dancing to it and having a good time. I wanted to mix it up – not so hardcore, tough guy – that scene’s played out. Even the cover for it is animated – I wanted to have fun with it … I love music and since I’m already a big fan why not do the artist side as well. After living on the business side, I’ve seen the movement and motivation that comes along with it. When people meet me, or work with me, I’m the biggest kid in the studio. It just makes me happy. I’m a firm believer in there’s no ego – if you love music it should give you the same feeling. At the end of the day, I’m trying to make hit records.”
This Miami native is all about lifting others up and using his resources as a platform for positive influence. He never hesitates to brag on his team or the 19-track album “Pluto World” that delivers a diverse and thrilling showcase of the artists around him.
“It doesn’t have to be Rap – if it’s a dope record, it’s a dope record,” Moolah Rich said. “There’s a little club, Hip-Hop, R&B – we have Spanish artists and female – I just love it. I’m all about surrounding yourself with great people, and I love the quote from Damon Dash that says it’s cool to see one person pull up in a nice car and look good, but it’s even better to see 10 people pull up in nice cars, that’s a movement and It makes a statement.”
Success speaks for itself – and it says “hard work” – but Moolah Rich says it’s more than that. He was born with the name Mike Scipio, and grew up in foster care in Miami – where the only thing that could change things was a positive mindset.
“Everybody has a story and mine was that I did it on my own,” Moolah Rich said. “When I was young, I just told myself this is what I was going to do. I moved to California to be an actor, but that got me more into the entertainment industry. Everywhere I went, I paid attention and learned.”
He earned his bachelor’s degree in business communications at the University of Miami. His pursuits in the business realm of music led him to his own music label where he discovered a strong passion.
“Helping other artists and changing their lives – I get a rush out of that,” he said. “It’s the coolest thing, you got to think positive. I feel like everybody goes through something, and you just have to decide what you want to do, speak it, and make it come true. I’m the person who wants to see everybody happy And I want that good energy around me so it translates to the music.”
When he’s not networking across the country, Moolah Rich can be found at one of his three places in Miami, LA or Vegas. As he puts boots on the ground to promote his name, music label and other artists on his team, that courageous smile lets people know his stage-name is something everyone can relate to.
“It doesn’t matter what you do or where you are from, everyday you wake up and got to make moolah,” he said. “You can’t even get a bag of chips without it – it’s a representation of everybody living everyday. And who doesn’t love music?! It doesn’t matter your circumstances – if you have a vision, you gotta make it happen. I told myself I could do it, and I could do it my way. You have to weed between the negative and find people who support you. As long as you have the passion and you’re not chasing money, money will come.”
