DENVER, COLO. — Indie-folk musician C. Scott is priming to release the title track to his imminent album, “Wrong Horizon,” coming to music streaming platforms on Aug. 23. He’s planning on unleashing Wrong Horizon, the album this fall, on Oct. 4 and will celebrate with a listening party on Oct. 19.
Set to a walking pace tempo, “Wrong Horizon” encapsulates the inner turmoil of someone who presumes they’re embracing the path they wanted until, upon reflection, they realize that they’re chasing the wrong horizon.
Ironically, the track’s lyrics came to the Colorado park employee during a hike at work. Although he enjoyed the recreational industry, he realized it wasn’t bringing him the happiness he searched for that only music could bring. At this point in his life, Scott was in his five-year hiatus from music. But after a scary incident involving a knife that led to the severing of the tendons in his left hand (fret hand), the thought of the possibility of him never making music gave him a wake-up call.
Ultimately, Scott returned to pursuing music, setting his sights on the right horizon.
“One day it was just like, ‘Man, I’m unhappy, I miss playing music, I miss playing for people, and I miss writing,” the singer-songwriter says, adding how he eventually learned it was never too late to pursue what he loved—music. “Every small step in the right direction is a step in the right direction. So, it’s like, screw it. I’m going to start writing music again. I’m going to start playing, start doing open mics more. I wrote ‘Wrong Horizon’ about just that…chasing down the wrong horizon and then learning this isn’t the direction I want to go, but then having the courage and hope to pursue the right horizon, as it were, encouraging other people. It’s never too late. [You’ve] been chasing down the wrong horizon, but it’s ok. You can always try something else.”
Scott feared taking the risky route but said it was worth the investment. He encourages his listeners to chase the right horizon, affirming that investing in themselves and what they love is worth the risk.
About C. Scott
The Nashvillian-turned-Denverite’s love for music began at a very young age, and it blossomed in high school when he discovered his passion for performing on stage, thanks to musical theater. Taking advantage of open mic nights in college, Scott honed his musicianship to become the artist he is today. Even during the estimated five-year hiatus, Scott has bloomed into a profound artist who enjoys sharing his “blue-collar folk magic” with willing ears.
With influences like Ray LaMontagne, Gregory Alan Isakov, Lord Huron, Bob Dylan, and Rachael Yamagata in mind, Scott released his debut EP, Stay Silver Stay Gold, with the title track achieving over one thousand streams on Spotify. His art is a beautiful blend of Americana and twangy indie-folk, or as he calls it, “southwestern mystic twang” or “big sky country,” with lyrics that reflect the highs and lows of the blue-collar work and personal life.
Scott is grateful to share his potent lyrics, blue-collar perspective, and breathtaking southwestern sound with the world.
Listen to “Wrong Horizon” on Aug. 23.
