Rising country star Gable Burnett releases a thrilling sophomore single, “Cicada Summer,” a poignant addition to her ever-growing discography. It’s available on all music streaming platforms.

“Cicada Summer” is an ode to the seasonal, ephemeral nature of young (platonic or romantic) relationships. Drawing from East Tennessee weather terms like “blackberry winter” and “dogwood winter,” Burnett coined “Cicada Summer” to describe the peak of summer when everything feels dreamlike and memories flood back. The track encapsulates nostalgia’s warmth and the delicate nature of fleeting moments.

While Burnett sought inspiration from country icons like Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell, and Deanne Carter, the emerging country singer drew from her memories with a seven-year friendship that bloomed into a short-lived relationship to pen “Cicada Summer.” Burnett warn her listeners that “Cicada Summer” may evoke pleasant and unpleasant feelings and memories.

“I want them to be able to listen to it and look at their own relationships and lives and be able to reflect on what they’re grateful for even if things didn’t work out,” Burnett says. “Hopefully, it will spark some memories, and they can look back on what they didn’t realize they still had…I hope that y’all love ‘Cicadas Summer,’ and I hope that it becomes as part of your lives as the cicadas in the south are during our summertime.”

Burnett, who is originally from Texas, embarked on her musical journey at a young age, starting with classical music at 11. After honing her skills vocally and expanding to guitar and piano, she reached a point where she wanted to explore beyond her classical training. It was a family friend, related to American Western swing musician and songwriter Bob Wills, who encouraged her to delve into country music, sparking a new chapter in her musical career.

Burnett’s vision for her music extends beyond the stereotypical ‘boots, trucks and boys’ of country music (not like there’s anything wrong with it). She aims to tell stories and be influential, much like her musical inspirations Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn. In May 2024, Burnett released her debut single, “Trouble,” a testament to her unique approach to classic country music, which garnered over 30,000 streams on Spotify.

Burnett is working on an EP  that will include “Cicadas Summer” and “Trouble,” but she will have more details later.

Burnett is a force to be reckoned with. Check out “Cicada Summer” on all music streaming platforms, and don't miss the chance to catch Burnett at Eastside Bowl in Nashville on Sept. 23, 2024, for Breaking Sound’s Gimme The Mic.
