Destroyer have announced their new album ‘Dan’s Boogie’ and have shared its lead single ‘Bologna’ – check it out below.

The Canadian indie rock band, led by Dan Bejar, have also announced details of a string of UK and European tour dates for this summer, which will see them play in Manchester, Bristol and London. Scroll down for all of the dates.

‘Dan’s Boogie’ will be the band’s 14th studio album in total and the follow-up to 2022’s ‘Labyrinthitis’, and will be released via Merge Records on March 28. Pre-order your copy here.

Lead single ‘Bologna’ includes a guest feature from Toronto band Fiver and, according to a press release, is the first Destroyer song that Bejar has ever written in which he imagines himself as a supporting character. See the David Galloway-directed video here:

“I haven’t written many songs like ‘Bologna’,” Bejar has explained. “I struggled singing the first and third verses, the most important parts of the song. They needed gravity and grit. The threat of disappearing needed to be real. So I called Simone,” he added, referring to Fiver singer Simone Schmidt.

‘Dan’s Boogie’ tracklist:

  1. ‘The Same Thing As Nothing At All’
  2. ‘Hydroplaning Off The Edge Of The World’
  3. ‘Ignoramus Of Love’
  4. ‘Dan’s Boogie’
  5. ‘Bologna’ (ft. Fiver)
  6. ‘I Materialize’
  7. ‘Sun Meet Snow’
  8. ‘Cataract Time’
  9. ‘Travel Light’

Destroyer are preparing to support Father John Misty on his North American tour in the coming months, and now they have added a string of European dates to take place in June. As well as appearances at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Porto, they will play shows in Paris, Manchester, Bristol and London to boot. UK tickets can be found here.

Destroyer will play:

JUNE
7 – Barcelona, Primavera Sound
9 – Paris, Trabendo
10 – Manchester, Gorilla
11 – Bristol, Fleece
12 – London, Islington Assembly Hall
14 – Porto, Primavera Sound

NME reviewed Destroyer’s 2020 album ‘Have We Met’, noting in a four-star review: “Bejar’s songwriting remains as deft, cryptic and mosaic as ever though. He’s called this a “dark” and “hopeless” record, and it variously evokes apocalyptic images of atomic bombs (‘Foolsong’), hospital corridors (‘Crimson Tide’) and a chance encounter with the Boston Strangler (‘Kinda Dark’). A common thread throughout is that of things not quite turning out as you envisioned: “follow a salary to the bottom of the ocean” he intones on ‘Crimson Tide’.”
