Meek Mill has been clowned online for wanting to buy TikTok ahead of the controversial social media platform’s ban in the United States.

The Philadelphia rapper, who is something of a magnet for mockery thanks to his often bizarre social media posts, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday (January 13): “Sell tik tok to me!”

Meek then followed up by saying: “If they cut off tik tok we going x and FANBASE.”

TikTok’s parent company ByteThis is currently under an order to sell the platform by January 19 or else the app will banned in the U.S. over concerns that the corporation has close ties to the Chinese government.

While incumbent president, Donald Trump, has asked the Supreme Court to delay the ban, that has not stopped social media from making numerous jokes at Meek’s expense.

Fans had fun with memes including one of the Dream Chasers boss at JAY-Z’s Roc Nation Brunch being stared at as if he has just said something crazy.

Another user posted a screenshot of an old tweet which said: “Just wait, Meek Mill’s bout to tweet something stupid in all this chaos.”

Someone else posted a brief clip from the sitcom Martin where the titular star says: “Sit your dumb ass down!”

HipHopDX‘s Jeremy Hecht also commented: “I swear we need a museum for Meek tweets.”

Meek Mill is not the first rapper to express interest in buying TikTok. Last year, Soulja Boy made a public overture to the company.

Soulja, who claims to make tens of thousands of dollars a day on the app, criticized the passing of the bill banning the platform, writing on X: “Smh this isn’t right. No freedom of speech. 1st amendment down the drain.

“I can’t believe yall just gon let them ban TikTok like that. And yall think it’s funny. If they do it to this app they can do it to any app or site. Not cool fr yall will see later.”

He then improbably claimed he would like to purchase the video-sharing app, tweeting: “How much yall want for TikTok? I’ll buy it.”

The massively popular platform is valued at up to $110 billion, though the company has valued itself at more than double that number, putting it far outside the reach of any rapper.
